〉okay so what is a shadowhunter?
besides shadowhunters, they're also called
nephilim and they are appointed warriors on earth of the angel raziel. what they do? basically they control and preside the demons or supernatural creatures that reside the earth.
another thing is that angel raziel left some tools for shadowhunters to complete their tasks, a thousand year ago.
〉what are the tools?
the mortal instruments. there are three mortal instruments to be exact. the first one is the mortal cup, it came complete with angelic blood and power, so that any regular mundane would turn into a shadowhunter once they drank from it. but, it doesn't always work; most mundanes don't survive the transition. most importantly, the mortal cup gives the holder the ability to control demons. second is the mortal sword, also known as the soul sword, the mortal sword is kept in the city of bones and used by the silent brothers (which i will later explain) in rituals and trials. the sword compels the wielder to speak the truth, and helps with forcing hidden truths and memories to be uhm exposed. lastly, the mortal mirror, also known as the mortal glass, is in fact lake lyn in idris. ingesting the lake's waters can be poisonous to nephilim, but it has no effect on downworlders. faeries drink from the lake, saying that it gives them true vision; for the nephilim, it causes hallucinations and may even drive them to madness.

〉covenant
another name for the nephilim law. it is rules for both shadowhunters and downworlders.
〉clave
the clave is the name for the political body made up of all active shadowhunters. they keep and interprets the law decisions about the guidance of the nephilim and decides on important matters that could affect the nephilim, sometimes affect the downworlders too.
〉idris
shadowhunter's secret country. it's hidden in central europe and the capital city, the only city, is alicante. there is where the clave do their meetings.
〉the iron sisters
the iron sisters are like an organization of female shadowhunters that forge weapons. the iron sisters are considered the female counterparts of the silent brothers. they live in the adamant citadel where they live in almost total solitude and speak only, and occasionally, to female shadowhunters.

〉runes
also known as marks. they're like tatoos but they're used for supernatural powers. runes are burnt on the skins of shadowhunters with a stele.
〉stele
is used to draw runes on shadowhunters, weapons or other materials. steles are made of adamas and also made by the iron sisters.
〉parabatai
a pair of nephilim who fights together as longlife partners. now don't get confused with love partners and parabatais. their bond is not just showed only in their closeness and how willing they are to lay down their lives for one another, but also in oath. parabatais are sworn in front of the council. the bond doesn't break unless one of the partners die.
