Gradam: The Broken Chain

Part 3

Adam payed attention the next day at school, at his peers clothing. He noticed Gracie's classic blue sweatshirt, putting her as a prime suspect of the sabotage. But he noticed two others as well. James and Alex. James was a solid color v-neck t-shirt kind of person, but James could never do anything like that. But for Alex, Adam had his suspicions. It was his "friend's" babysitter. Everyone knew about Alex's and Hailey's "secret" relationship, and how the tension between them, after they broke up, was getting tight. It would make sense, but it was outrageous. Adam didn't want to jump to conclusions. And decided to to further investigate later. Adam usually walked  home, but decided to take his bike because he had to get home ASAP to try and figure this out. About 20 minutes down the street, from school. He saw Gracie and her brother standing outside her brothers car. Her brother usually drives her home after school, but there they were. Both on their phones panicking outside the steaming car. Adam stopped, and headed over to see the trouble.
"What happened?"He asked.
"Car broke down" Said her brother "I have a toolbox in the back from my job, but I'm not a mechanic" Adam suddenly had an idea that could either go really well or really awful. "The tow truck won't be here for at least two hours!" Said Gracie in a panic.
"I could try and fix it"
"Do you know what your doing?" Asked her brother
"My dad's a mechanic, and I've picked up somethings over the years"
"Ok, as long as you know your not gonna wreck it more"
Adam lept for the toolbox and went right to work. He knew the perfect temporary solution for a cracked gas cap, which was just duct tape.
"Just make sure to get it to a real mechanic as soon as you can" Adam warned.
"Alright. Let me make a quick phone call and we'll get going Gracie" Said her brother.
He closed the car door on himself, leaving Adam and Gracie alone outside.
This is it, Adam thought.
"So," Adam finally said, "do you want to maybe hang out after school tomorrow?"
Gracie could hear the anxiousness in his voice.
"Sure," Said Gracie "but my brother won't be able to drive us anywhere like you just said"
CRAP! Adam thought. Adam scrambled to think of an alternative.
"Well, how about bike riding" Adam immediately regretted saying that out load.
"That sounds great!" Gracie delightfully replied, "but my bikes broken beyond repair," Gracie sighed.
"Maybe" Adam didn't want to give up now.
"You could borrow my sister's bike" Adam  felt his face turning colors it didnt usually
"Yeah, I'd like that" Gracie said
"So I'll just drop by to pick you up and we'll just ride to Starbucks or something?"
Adam felt like every wish he'd ever had all came true at once
"Ok, I'll see you tomorrow!"
*beep*
"C'mon sis, I have places to be!"
Gracie looked up at Adam and smiled
"Later" Gracie skitted off to the car and they drove away.
