The weather was getting worse. I knew it probably wasn't a good idea to keep the bar open, but I did anyway. I had a few people coming in and out, but I decided it was best to close at 9. The worst of the weather would be coming in after that. No one seemed to be worried about me except my wonderful girlfriend who is texting me every ten minutes. She was worried because I would have to drive home. Then she told me that she was freaking out and the thunder and lightning were so bad. I had just got in the car when my phone started ringing. I looked down and saw her beautiful face appear on my screen.
"Yes, beautiful?" I ask answering the phone.
"Please tell me you are leaving?" She asks.
"I am pulling out of the parking lot."
"Good. You are making nervous." She softly. "Well, this weather is making nervous."
"I know." I say chuckling. "I got all 50 of your messages."
"Well, we haven't had weather like this in a long time and the lights keep flickering." She says worriedly.
"Sweetheart?"
"Yeah?" She asks softly.
"Do you want me to come spend the night with you?" I ask already heading towards her house.
"Can you?"
"I'm on my way."
"Thank you." She says. I can hear the sigh of relief that comes from her mouth.
"I'll be there in 5 minutes or so."
"Okay. Be careful."
"I will sweetheart."
The line went dead and I continued to her house. The wind was really bad and I probably shouldn't be driving in it, but I didn't want to leave Regina by herself with the weather since she was so concerned. I pulled into her driveway about 7 minutes later and the rain continued to pour down. I didn't even bother with and an umbrella. I grabbed the bag out of the backseat that I always keep in my truck for when I come to her house. I opened my door and ran to her front door. I knocked and she was at the door within seconds.
"Hey, hurry up inside before you get sick." She says waving me in. I walk inside while she closes and locks the door. I put my bag down and took off my jacket. She was quick to wrap me in a hug. "You had me so worried."
"I'm sorry." I say softly. "Thanks for letting me come over."
"I honestly didn't want to be alone." She says pulling back a little.
"Well, now you don't have to be." I say smiling. "I hate to be so rude, but I am starving."
"I made dinner earlier." She says smiling. She grabs my hand and pulls me into the kitchen. "I made myself a salad and I had grilled chicken and broccoli." She says pulling it all out of the fridge. "What would you like?"
"I'll take whatever you are willing to give me." I say smiling.
"Okay." She says chuckling. She grabs a plate and a bowl. She put the chicken and broccoli on a plate and pops it in the microwave. She comes back next to me and starts putting lettuce in the bowl and puts all kinds of toppings on it. "I have two different dressings in the fridge if you would like to choose."
"Thank you. Here let me pick all this up for you." I say grabbing everything to put back in the fridge. I walk to the fridge and pick everything up and grab the Italian dressing. I walk back to the counter and pour it on my salad. I place it back in the fridge while she grabs my food out of the microwave.
"See, if it's hot enough." She says placing it on the counter in front of me. She cuts a piece of chicken and holds it up to my mouth. I take it and it was actually really hot.
"Very hot." I say chuckling.
"Oh, I'm sorry." She says kissing my cheek. "Let's go upstairs. I don't mind if you eat in my room." She says grabbing us a bottle of wine and a glass.
"It's alright." I say chuckling. "We are drinking wine? What's the occasion?"
"No occasion. I just want wine." She says heading up the stairs. I smile and follow her up with my food. She puts the wine on her end table and closes the door behind me. "Make yourself comfortable."
I didn't want to sit on her bed with the wet clothes I had on so I put my food down to go get my bag. "I'm going get my bag from downstairs. I don't want to sit on your bed in wet clothes."
"You eat. I'll get for you." She says smiling and heading towards the door. When she came back I was eating and looking out of her window watching the rain. "Here, babe it's on the chair."
"Thank you, sweetheart." I say turning around and smiling at her.
"You're welcome." She says smiling. "I'll get you some towels so you can shower after you finish. I'm not letting you leave with all this weather."
"You will get no argument from me." I say smirking.
"Good." She says chuckling. "I'll go get your towels."
I nod and finish eating. "Babe, what do you want me to do with the rest of the broccoli? I am so full." I ask walking into the bathroom.
"I'll probably just toss it." She says shrugging. "I'll take it and your towels are on the sink."
"You sure?" I ask. "I don't mind heading to the kitchen."
"Nope, I can get." She says walking up to me. She grabs my cheeks and kisses my lips. "Take a shower. You smell like outside." She grabs my plate and heads to the kitchen.
I jump in and take a quick shower. The rain continued to get worse and the lighting and thundering was so bad. While I was in the shower the power went out. The water gradually got colder so I got out. I had just finished drying off when I heard a thud. I threw on some boxers and a pair of sweatpants. I grab my phone and turn the flashlight on. I head to the stairs and call out for Regina.
"Babe?"
"I'm right here." She says.
I shine the light down the stairs and she had fell. I rush down the stairs and check for any blood. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah." She says rubbing her head. "When the power went out, I was coming upstairs to check on you. I was holding on to the banister and I missed the step and tripped, but I guess I tried to catch myself by holding on to the railing tighter and I kind of fell forward."
"What did you hit?" I ask helping her stand.
"My knees and my head." She says. "Trying to catch myself obviously didn't work."
"Let's get you some ice." I say looking at her head. "You may have a bump."
"Oh well." She says shrugging.
"Come see." I say picking her up. She chuckles and wraps her legs around my waist. I carry her into the kitchen and place her on the counter. "Stay here for a sec." I put my phone on the counter so it kind of lit the kitchen up. I grab a bag and put some ice in it. I come back and place it on her head. She flinches when I press it to her forehead. "Oh, I'm sorry."
"It's okay. It just hurts." She says putting her hand on top of mine over the ice. "Can you get me a water?"
"Sure can." I say walking to the fridge. I grab her a bottle and walk back to her. "Ready to go cuddle?" I ask smiling.
She let out this adorable chuckle and nods. "Yeah, I'm ready." I help her off the counter and we head upstairs carefully. "Make yourself comfortable I'm going brush my teeth."
I nod and she heads to the bathroom after placing her ice on the table. I crawl into her bed and grab her ice bag.
"Come see." I say as she walks out of the bathroom. "I want to check your head."
"Okay." She says grabbing her phone and scooting under the covers. I grab my phone and turn the flashlight on.
"You have a small bump, but with your hair you can't really tell." I say placing the ice back on it.
"Thank you." She says smiling.
"For what?" I ask smiling.
"For coming spend the night here. I hate this weather." She says.
"I can tell." I say chuckling. "I will come over whenever you want me too. Rain or shine."
She chuckles and scoots closer to me. "Whatcha wanna do?"
"Not much we can do in the dark." I say chuckling.
"You're right, but I have two lips and you have two lips." She says softly.
"That we do." I say smiling. I nudge her nose with mine.
She chuckles and places her hand on my cheek. "You're so warm and I'm always so cold." She leans her forehead against mine.
"You're adorable." I say kissing her nose.
"Shut up."
"Nope." I say chuckling. From the slight light of the flashlight pointing up to the ceiling, I see her smile and she leans forward kissing me sweetly. I took the initiative and deepened the kiss. I wrap my arms around her and pull her on top of me without breaking the kiss. She smiles against my lips and pulls away.
"Sorry, I need to put the ice down." She drops the ice on the rug and turns back to me. "Does it still look bad?"
I push her hair back and grab my phone looking at the bump. "Went down a little, but I think you should keep the ice on it a little longer. Probably about 10 more minutes and we can go back to what we were doing."
"Fine." She says sighing. She gets off of me and leans over picking up the ice bag from the ground. She got back on the bed and sat in between my legs. She leans back against my chest and places the ice on her head.
"This weather makes me sleepy." I say yawning.
"Usually I wouldn't mind the rain, but I don't like this." She says sighing. "I hate all the thunder and the wind."
Right after she said that there was a really bright flash of lightening and a loud clap of thunder that shook the house. Regina literally jumped out of her skin. "You okay?" I ask kissing her head.
"Yeah, just wasn't expecting that." She says pulling my arm tighter around her. "I might just make you lay on top of me so I'm not jumping like an idiot."
"There are other things we could with me laying on top of you." I say smirking.
"I'm too freaked out. I won't be able to enjoy." She says sighing.
"Babe, it's just a tropical storm." I say hugging her to my chest.
"But it's bad." She says linking her fingers with mine.
"I know." I say kissing her head again. "We can lay down and I can block you from the window so you will be distracted from the lighting."
"I guess that'll work." She says dropping her ice bag back on the floor and laying on her side of the bed. "Hold me." She says smiling up at me.
I chuckled and laid next to her placing my arm over her stomach. I leaned up on my elbow and we were just staring into the dark. We started talking about random things. We talked about our trip that we just got back from and our anniversary at the end of the week. We were just enjoying each other's company when the weather started getting worse. The rain was coming down sideways outside. She continued to jump at every loud clap of thunder and I kept getting slapped because I would laugh every time. She told me I was being a jerk and I just thought it was cute. This would be an interesting night's sleep.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up to an empty bed. I looked around to our clothes still strewn all over the floor in her room. I smiled at the memory from the night before.
With missing two days of school because of the tropical storm, she was so busy with tests, grading, and just catching up that we had no time to see each other this week. So, when she called me Friday afternoon and said she needed to see me right away, more like her lips needed to see me, I came to her rescue. Let's just say we had a very exciting afternoon into the night and into the early morning. We talked a lot, we messed around a lot, and there were lots and lots of kissing. After I was thinking of our night, I heard music coming from downstairs. I got up and put my boxers on and headed downstairs. I lean against the doorframe in the kitchen and watch. She is dancing around in the lingerie I bought her and she was singing. It was the most adorable thing. She continued to dance and without turning around, danced up to me. She turning around and had the biggest smile on her face. She grabbed my hand and pulled me further into the kitchen. I smiled and started swinging her around. She was smiling and laughing at everything. When the song came to an end, I spun her into me then I dipped her. She laughed again as I pulled her back up.
"Someone is in a good mood." I say smiling.
"Is that a problem?" She asked raising an eyebrow.
"It is never a problem." I say kissing her. She smiled into it and then she pulled away.
"Breakfast." She says turning back to her cooking. She goes back to making the scrambled eggs.
I walked to her and wrapped my arms around her waist. "What are you making?" I ask softly.
"I have cinnamon rolls in the oven, scrambled eggs, grits, and bacon." She says smiling. "I hope you're hungry because I was." She says chuckling.
"Well, I did work up an appetite after last night." I whisper in her ear.
She smirks while she flips the bacon. She pushes her ass into me and moves from in front of me. "Then you better eat." She says smiling.
"I have other things on my mind that I want to eat." I whisper wrapping my arms around her from behind again.
"Stop, you are so bad." She says chuckling. "I want actual food."
"Fine, I'll eat actual food too. That doesn't mean I won't be hungry later tonight." I say lifting myself to sit on the counter.
"I'll think about." She says winking at me. "Alright bacon is almost done. Can you get some plates and cups?"
"Yep." I say smiling. I hop down and walk over to the cabinets. I pull out two plates and two coffee cups. I set them up and pull the cinnamon rolls out from the oven. I put one on each plate and put icing on them. She puts bacon, eggs, then grits on each plate while I make coffee. She moves our plates to the table and sits down while I bring the coffee to the table. "Alright enjoy." She says smiling.
"Wait, forks." I say smiling. I get up and walk to the drawer, grab two and sit back down. "Here."
"Thank you." She says smiling. We both start eating and talking about a few different things. She told me that Halloween is one of her favorite holidays and that we must dress up for a party that the faculty gives at the school. I really don't like Halloween, but if that is what she wants to do then I am all for it.
"Oh, would you like to go to lunch today and finally meet my dad?" I ask smiling.
"Sure, that's sounds like fun." She says smiling.
"He invited us to lunch at his house. My sister and her husband will be there too. Plus, you will finally get to meet my nephew." I say smiling.
"Aww, that's exciting. You said his name was Roland, right?" She asks smiling.
"Yes, he's 6 years old." I say smiling.
"I love kids." She says smiling. "Obviously because I'm a teacher." She says chuckling. "What time do we have to leave?"
"Well, it is going to take a little over two hours to get to Tallahassee. Lunch is at 12:30, so we will probably have to leave in about an hour. Is that okay?"
"Yeah, if you don't mind putting these in the dishwasher, I am going to go hop in the shower." She says smiling.
"Absolutely, go start getting ready." I say smiling. She leans down and kisses me.
"Thanks babe." She says smiling and heading up the stairs.
After we both took showers and got dressed, we got in the car and headed to my dad's house. Regina was her usual bubbly self. She was singing to the radio and we talked a little. Two hours goes a lot quicker when you have someone to talk to. She was dressed casually today too. She had on jeans, a Polo t-shirt, and black wedges. I was wearing jeans, a navy-blue Polo, and tennis shoes. We pulled up to his house and Regina gasped.
"His house is beautiful." She says smiling.
"Yeah, but he moved after I moved out of the other house." I say chuckling.
"That's funny." She says chuckling.
My dad moved to this two story house. It has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It really is a nice house with a lot of space. My dad offered to help me pay for a nicer place, but I refused. So, yes, I am a little jealous of my father's house.
I walk around to the other side of the truck. I open her door and grab her hand helping her down.
"Thank you." She says smiling. I close the door and lock my truck then grab her hand. We walk up to the door and knock.
"You nervous?" I ask smiling.
"No." She says chuckling. "I'm good. I have wanted to meet your dad for a while. You talk great things about him."
"I know. I miss him. I haven't seen him in a while. I am also not sure why he isn't answering the door." I say looking through the window. "I don't see him. He might be outside. Let me go get my key from the truck."
"Okay, I'll wait here." She says smiling. I run to the truck and grab the key from the console.
"Alright, let's see where he is." I say unlocking the door. She walks in first and I follow her in closing the door behind us.
"Dad?" I call out. I got no response. "He must be outside." I say grabbing her hand. I head into the living room where the back door is. The living room has plenty of windows and we see him at the barbeque pit.
"Are we having barbeque for lunch?" She asks smiling.
"I'm not sure. Let's go see." I say leading her to the back door. He had the music playing in the backyard and had everything outside for us to eat. He really went all out for this lunch. "Dad!" I call out. He closes the lid to the pit and turns around.
"Robin!" He says smiling. He comes over to us and immediately hugs me. "How have you been?"
"I have been great, dad." I say smiling. "This is."
"Regina." He interrupts. "You are even more beautiful in person."
"Awe, thank you." She says blushing. "It's so nice to finally meet you." She says as my dad pulls her into a hug.
"I know. It is so nice to finally meet the woman who stole my son's heart." He says happily.
Regina looks at me and smiles. "I talk about you a lot." I say shrugging.
"You are always the topic when we are on the phone." He says.
"Okay, not always, but yes you do come up in the conversions quite often." I say leaning in and kissing her lips. She chuckled and my dad went tend to the food.
"He talks about how gorgeous you are!" My dad yells over the music.
"Thanks dad!" I yell.
"Robin, it's fine. I think it's cute that you talk about me to your dad." She says smiling and wrapping her arms around my waist. I kiss her forehead as I wrap my arms around her and hug her.
"You want to sit?" I ask.
"Sure." She says smiling. "Your dad has my favorite station on too." I chuckle and pull out a chair. She goes to sit down, but I sit down first. She looks at me kind of confused, but I just smile and pull her to sit on my lap. She smiled and sat sideways putting her arm around my neck.
"Hope you both like barbeque." My dad says coming to sit.
"Yes, I do." Regina says smiling. "It is probably my favorite."
"Well, then I think you will enjoy what I have cooking." He says smiling. "Marian should be here in a few minutes. She said Roland did not want to wake up this morning."
"Does he ever want to wake up?" I ask chuckling. "The little boy loves to sleep. If you didn't wake him up, he would probably just sleep for a week straight."
"That's so cute though. I'm sure he is fun when he is awake." She says smiling.
"Oh, he is. He likes to go to the park and swing and play run around until I am out of breath. He likes to play that when I am around because he knows after a while I will just give up and then he automatically wins." I say looking at Regina.
"Yeah, I would probably do the same thing." She says chuckling.
"Robin can you go put the corn on the cob on the stove for me. I completely forgot about it." He asks going back to check the food.
"Yeah, dad, I'll get it." I say smiling. Regina stands up and she grabs my hand and pulls me up. She intertwines our fingers and we both walk back inside.
"I would have stayed outside, but can you point me into the direction of the bathroom please." She says chuckling.
"Yeah, babe." I say smiling. I walk her to the hallway. "Okay, walk down this hallway, take a right at the end, and it will be the second door on the left."
"Thank you." She says smiling. She walks to the bathroom and I head to the kitchen. I put the corn on the stove and just wait for Regina to get back. I hear her heels clicking down the hallway a few minutes later.
"Good?" I ask smiling.
"Yep, after that two-hour trip, I needed to go." She says chuckling.
"Having fun yet?" I ask hopefully.
"Yes, why are you worried?" She asks smirking and wrapping her arms around neck.
"Well, if they don't like you I have to breakup with them." I say placing my hands on her hips.
"You're so sweet." She says smiling and placing her lips on mine.
"Ewwww." We heard from a tiny voice. We pull away and Marian is standing there smirking with Roland in her arms. Regina turns back to look at me and chuckles.
"Sorry, Marian. Didn't think we would get caught." I say walking up to her. "Hey, buddy. How are you?" I ask taking Roland from her.
"I'm good. Who is that?" He asks looking at Regina.
"Roland this is Regina. Uncle Robin's girlfriend." I say smiling. "Regina this is my nephew Roland."
"She's pretty, Uncle Robin." Roland says trying to whisper.
"I think she is pretty too." I say smiling. Regina just stands there smiling.
"Well, it is nice to finally meet you, Roland. You are a very handsome little boy." Regina says smiling.
"She's nice just like you Uncle Robin." Roland says with the biggest smile on his face.
I laugh at his comment. "She is very nice. Why don't you go see Grandpa? He is outside." I say placing him on the floor.
"Okay." He says running to the back door.
"Regina this is my sister Marian. Marian this is Regina."
"Hi, it's so nice to finally meet you." Regina says smiling.
"Yes, it is. You are all he talks about when I call him. I feel like I already know you." Marian says chuckling.
"He talks about Roland all the time with me. He is adorable." Regina says chuckling.
"Yeah, he is quite the little charmer. Neal, come meet Regina." Marian says getting his attention.
"Oh, I was looking for y'all. Hello, Regina, I'm Neal." He says reaching out his hand.
"Nice to meet you Neal." Regina says happily shaking his hand.
"Alright, how about you all go outside and I will bring the corn out because it is done." I say smiling.
"Alright, ladies, let's go." Neal says heading to the back door.
Regina starts walking away and I reach my leg out and kick her butt. She jumps and turns around. I motion her back to me and she walks back.
"What's wrong?" She asks looking worried.
"Nothing, I just want a kiss." I say smiling.
"You're so bad." She says kissing my lips quickly. I smile and tend back to the corn right as she slaps my ass. "That was for kicking me." She says as she turns around and walks away. She rubs her hands down her sides and over her ass. Then she turns around and winks. She was teasing me, but I loved her for it. I head out a few minutes later with the corn. Regina has Roland on her lap and he is just talking away. I didn't even know what he was saying, but Regina was listening and nodding when supposed too.
"Alright, who is ready to eat?" I ask.
"Me!" Roland screams. "Regina, after we eat, will you come on the swing with me?" He asks with his big brown eyes.
"Of course." She says smiling. He wiggles off her lap and sits in the chair next to her.
Regina is sitting at the head of the table, with Roland and me on either side of her. My dad is next to me, Marian next to Roland and Neal at the other side at head table. We had a variety of different meats, corn on the cob, pork and beans, salad with Italian dressing, iced tea, and water. Like I said before, my dad got really fancy with this lunch. Each person had a plate, bowl, a glass of water, and a glass of tea. Regina loves salad and that's what she grabbed first. So, after everything was on her plate, I realized she didn't have any meat because it was on the other side of the table. She scoots her chair out and goes to stand up.
"What are you doing?" I ask looking at her.
"I don't have any meat, so I'm going get some." She says.
"I can get it for you. All you had to do was ask." I say chuckling. "What do you want?"
"I'll take some ribs and some sausage." She says smiling and handing me her plate.
"You don't want a pork chop?" I ask.
"There's pork chops?" She asks.
"Yes, there is." I say putting it on her plate.
"Thank you." She says smiling. I hand her the plate back and everyone begins eating. My dad started the conversation asking her where she worked and about school, nothing to personal, just curious about why she became a teacher. Roland chimed in every so often about where he goes to school too.
After we finished eating, Roland jumped out of his chair and taps Regina on the shoulder. "What's up?" Regina asks smiling.
"Can you come on the swing with me?" He asks bouncing up and down on his heels.
"Let me finish my salad and I will meet you out there, okay?" She asks.
"Okay, Regina." He says skipping out into the backyard.
"You don't have to go play with him." Marian says chuckling.
"No, I don't mind." She says smiling.
We make small talk here and there while Regina finishes eating. "Okay, I will be with Roland if anyone needs me." Regina says smiling. She stands up and walks to the swing set. She immediately starts pushing Roland on the swing and you can hear him giggling. While they are on the swing, the rest of us began to clean up. When we were cleaning, Marian went by Regina.
(Regina's pov.)
I was pushing Roland on the swing when his mom came walking up to us.
"Hi, mommy!" Roland screams.
"Hey sweetheart." Marian says smiling.
"Regina, is really nice mommy. She pushes me on the swing just like daddy does." Roland says happily.
"Well, I'm glad you're having fun. How about you go inside and let uncle Robin clean you up for dessert." Marian says smiling.
"Okay, mommy." He says jumping off the swing and running into the house.
"He is so adorable." I say sitting on the swing.
"He is a handful." Marian says sitting on the swing next to mine. "He is quite fond of you too. Most of the time he is really shy around people. I'm glad he has opened up to someone."
"Oh well, that makes me happy. I love kids and to see him smiling and giggling is heartwarming." I say smiling.
We sat there in silence for a few seconds and she looks at me. "So, you and brother?"
"Yeah." I say smiling. "He is really special."
"So, y'all are pretty serious?" She asks looking at me.
"Let's just say I really love your brother and he means the world to me." I say smiling. "We talk about our future all the time and we both want each other around for a long time."
"I can see he loves you just by the way he looks at you." Marian says smiling. "Y'all got serious really..."
"Quickly." I interrupt. "We did, but I believe everything happens for a reason and I really love your brother. He came into my life for a reason and he has done nothing, but give me the world."
"I just don't want him hurt. He took his last breakup really hard and I just want to protect him." She says.
"Well, I have no intention of hurting your brother. I don't want to lose him and I don't plan on it." I say seriously. I'm not sure why she was grilling me. It was scaring me, but I was not going to let her intimidate me.
(Robin's Pov.)
I looked out the window and Marian and Regina were sitting on the swings. I watched for a few minutes, but something didn't seem right. They weren't laughing or smiling. I needed to see what was going on. I walked outside and towards the swings.
"Hey, what's going on?" I ask smiling.
"I was just talking with Regina." Marian says smiling. Regina looked up and nodded with a smile. I know Regina very well and her smile did not reach her eyes. "I will leave you two lovebirds alone." She says standing up and walking back to the house.
"What did she tell you?" I ask kneeling in front of her.
"Oh, nothing we were just talking." She says smiling again.
"Regina, I know you are lying to me. What did she say to you? Did she offend you?" I ask sadly, but she didn't answer me she just looked away. "I'm going to kill her." I say standing up and walking back to the house.
"Robin, no." She says running up to me.
"Regina, you are obviously upset. She obviously said something that upset you. Please just talk to me." I say resting my hands on her cheeks.
"You love me, right?" She asks sadly.
"Regina, of course I do." I say kissing her nose.
"She doesn't seem to think that I love you. She didn't directly say it, but she implied it." Regina says sadly and that is when a tear fell onto her cheek.
"Hey, hey. Please don't cry. You know I hate to see you cry." I say wiping her cheek.
"I'm sorry." She says softly.
"No, you have nothing to apologize for. She needs to apologize." I say hugging her. "How about we stay outside and you tell me what she said? I'll go get us a blanket and we can watch the sunset. Or if you don't want to tell me what she said, we can just hang outside until you are ready to leave."
"That's fine." She says.
"Okay, go sit on the swing and I'll go get us a blanket." I say kissing her head. I lingered for a few seconds and I got her to smile. "I'll be right back." She nodded and I ran inside.
"Hey, Robin, whatcha doing?" Marian asks smiling.
"Don't talk to me." I say grabbing the blanket and walking back outside. I walk up to Regina and grab her hand. "Come see." She stands up and walks behind me. I lay the blanket in the middle of the yard and sit. I kick my shoes off then pull her to the blanket. She chuckles and sits between my legs. "Here, let me help you take your shoes off."
"Okay." She says smiling. She bends her knees and I unhook her shoes. I put them next to mine and wrap my arms around her.
"You okay?" I ask softly.
"I could be better." She says shrugging.
"I'm so sorry, Regina." I say squeezing her and kissing her cheek.
"Not your fault." She says looking up at me.
"What did she tell you?" I ask.
"It's not important. I don't want to cause an unnecessary fight..."
"Regina, it is important." I say interrupting her. "She upset you. It pisses me off that she would do that. She just met you today." I say frustrated.
"Hey, I'm a strong person. I'll be fine. It just took me off guard." She says shrugging.
"It still pisses me off." I say angrily.
"Would it make you feel better if I told you what she said?" She asked looking at me.
"Probably not, but I do want to know what she said." I say kissing her head.
"Okay." She said sighing. "She came outside and we started talking about Roland. Then she sent Roland inside and she was like so you and my brother and I was like yeah, he is really special. She started saying how she could see how much you loved me, but then she started saying how we got serious really fast and that you took your last breakup really hard and that she didn't want you hurt and wanted to protect you. She got really, I don't know I guess over protective. She looked at me like I was just some random girl and I was just using you for sex. After I said that I was in love with you and you gave me the world, she scoffed and said I just wanted you for your money and body. That is when she saw you walk outside and she stopped talking. Robin, I'm not that type of person. I would never use you for your body. I really do love you."
"Babe, I know you love me. I see it in your eyes. She is going to apologize to you. I promise she won't get away with saying that to you. I love you so much." I say smiling.
"I love you too." She says smiling.
"Can I show you something?" I ask.
"Sure." She says smiling.
"Okay, you wait here. I'll go get it." I say getting up and heading into the house. I grab my guitar case and head back outside. She was facing away from me and looking up at the stars. I walk back to her and place the case in the grass.
"Hey, what's that?" She asks smiling.
"Fun fact about your boyfriend, he plays guitar." I say smiling.
"Do you really?" She asks raising her eyebrows.
"I do. I have a surprise for you too." I say smiling.
"What's that?" She asks smiling.
"I learned a song." I say smiling. "This also happens to be one of your favorite songs, too."
"Well, let's hear it." She says hugging her legs.
I smile and strum a few times. After I got a feel for this guitar again, I started to play the song.
"Baby last night, was hands down
one of the best nights
that I've had no doubt.
Between the bottle of wine
and the look in your eyes and the Marvin Gaye
then we danced in the dark under September stars in the pourin' rain.
And I know that I can't ever tell you enough
that all I need in this life is crazy love.
If I never get to see the northern lights
Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night
Oh if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby I could die a happy man. Yeah.
Happy man, baby
Mmmmm
Baby that red dress brings me to my knees
Oh but that black dress makes it hard to breathe.
You're a saint, you're a Goddess, the cutest, the hottest, a masterpiece
It's too good to be true, nothing better than you
in my wildest dreams
And I know that I can't ever tell you enough
that all I need in this life is your crazy love
If I never get to see the northern lights
Or if I never get to see the Eiffel Tower at night
Oh if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby I could die a happy man yeah
I don't need no vacation, no fancy destination
Baby you're my great escape
We could stay at home, listen to the radio
Or dance around the fireplace
And if I never get to build my mansion in Georgia
Or drive a sports car up the coast of California
Oh if all I got is your hand in my hand
Baby I could die a happy man
Baby I could die a happy man
Oh I could die a happy man
You know I could girl
I could die, I could die a happy man."
"I love you Regina." I say smiling. I put my guitar back in the case and she kneels up and scoots over to me. She straddles me and hugs me so tight.
"It was beautiful." She says softly. "And I love you too."
"Do you want to head home? Maybe we can sit in front of the fire tonight with a bottle of wine." I ask rubbing her back.
"Sure." She says smiling. "Do I have to put my shoes back on?"
"No, you don't have to." I say smiling. I put my shoes on then grab her shoes and my guitar. We walk back inside to my dad watching television. "Hey, dad, we are going to head home."
"Okay, sounds good." He says standing up. "Marian left by the way. I would like to personally apologize for her saying whatever she said to you. I talked to her and she was being too protective over him. Hopefully, she hasn't scared you away."
"No, she didn't. I just want you to know that I do love your son." Regina says smiling.
"I can see it in your eyes." He says smiling. "I have also told Marian that she needs to speak to you and apologize because I am upset with her at the moment."
"It's okay, really, I'm fine." Regina says smiling.
"She still needs to apologize." My dad says hugging her.
"Well, thank you for lunch. I had a great time today." Regina says happily.
"Thank you for coming. Hopefully, I will see you two soon." He says.
"We will have you over soon, dad. Goodnight." I say hugging him.
"Goodnight Robin and Regina." He says as we walk out the door.
I help her into the car and she gets comfortable for our two-hour trip. She picks her feet up onto the seat and lays her arm across the console. She lays over her arm and was sound asleep not even 10 minutes into our trip. By the time we got home it was about 9:30. I got out of the truck and walked to her side of the truck. I carefully pick her up bridal style and carry her into the house. I bring her up to her room laying her on her bed. I grab a blanket and place it over her. I run back to the truck to grab my stuff and lock the door. I head back upstairs and she hadn't moved. I took off my shirt and my jeans slipping my plaid pajama pants on. I kneel next to her bed and move a piece of hair out of her face.
"Regina." I say softly. "Babe, do you want to change your clothes?" She didn't say anything, but she did move to lay on her back. Her hands moved under the blanket and it was then I realized that she was pulling her jeans off. She kicked them off and laid back on her side. I smile and crawl into the bed behind her. I get under the blanket with her wrapping my arm around her. "Goodnight, my love." I whisper softly.
