I could hear people talk as others laugh, but I just lay on the floor and continued puking. I struggled to look up and my eyes met with Jared's; I was feeling like I was on a spinning board spinning around the same spot.
I tried calling his name but Mike just looked at me and then began walking away into the crowd which had gathered to watch me. I heard one of the guys telling him to take me to my room but he said that he had just met me in the hall.
"I don't know this guy, I have just met him here and he challenged me for a chess game; I did not know he was an armature in the drinking world." Mike said then walked away.
I got to a point where I began vomiting a colorless liquid; I had not eaten anything. The guy behind the counter paved his way to where I was lying and forced some water with concentrated sugar into my mouth.
The solution made me feel a little bit better but I just blacked out few minutes later and when I woke up, I was in a strange room. I was having a severe headache and my right arm was feeling some pain; I had no idea what had happened to the arm.
I struggled out of bed and dragged my feet towards the door. When I got to the door, I heard some footsteps outside. I unlocked the door and peeped to see who was coming; it was the guy from the counter.
"Hey, good morning." He greeted me after he saw me walking out of the room.
"Good morning to you too sir." I replied.
"Just call me Omar." He said smiling.
"What happened last night?" I asked.
"You did what most freshaz do; messed big time." He replied with a polite tone.
"Oh no! How bad was it?" I asked.
"Bro, you messed big time. I would just advice you to stay low for a while and be wise when choosing your friends; betrayal is so much common around here." He replied.
"I guess right now everyone knows me as the puking boy. Why did you take me in when everyone else was denying not to know me and not wanting to be associated with me?" I asked.
"Humanity is not the aspect of being a human being Haman, humanity is the ability to live like a human being. You were helpless and hopeless, everyone was busy taking videos of your mess but I just could not leave you there because I know how it feels to wake up in the cold and worst of it all, you wake up to find your life messed up. I once had my darkest moments and when I saw you lying on that floor, I just could not let you go through what I went through." He replied calmly.
"Thanks Omar. I owe you a lot; one day, I will pay you, I promise." I said politely.
"No Ham, I did not help you to get repaid. I just want you to make me one promise." He replied.
"Which promise?" I asked.
"When you get out of here, help five people who need help from you and after helping them, tell them to help another five and to tell those five to help another five; that is the only way I want you to repay me." He replied.
I promised him that I would do that, then he served me breakfast and gave me a hood to cover my face as I walked back to my room.
Despite covering my head and part of my face, people still recognized me and every time I walked past a group of people, they would stop talking and stare at me.
Some would laugh out loudly while others just sympathized with me. It was my worst day ever in my life; I just wished the ground could open and swallow me whole.
I finally got to my room after a long embarrassing walk from Omar's house to the hostel; Joe was still asleep.
I took my towel and went to shower, then I wore my pajamas and retired to bed; I wanted to stay in bed the whole day. I had slept for a couple of minutes when I heard Joe calling out my name.
"Hey bro, where did you go last night? I was worried man." He said after I had woken up.
"Joe, I am not in the mood right now, just let me sleep please." I replied with a harsh tone.
The reason why I was being harsh on him, it was because he too was at the party and he did not bother to help me out. I did not spot him at the crowd, but I was more than sure he was at the party because I found a party cup in the room.
"Come on dude, I am trying to be nice here. I am just being a concerned roommate, you don't have to be rude." He said trying to sound polite.
I was about to reply to him with a more rude response but I just suppressed it and ignored him. I had barely fallen back asleep when Carol walked into the room.
"Is he asleep?" She asked Joe in whispers.
"He is just in a bad mood I guess." Joe replied.
"I feel guilty for leaving him at the party last night; it is all my fault." Carol said.
"Why? What happened?" Joe asked sounding curious.
"You were not at the party yesterday?" She asked sounding perplexed.
"I was there but...." Joe replied.
