JAMES P.O.V

My leg bounced up and down carelessly under the desk as I watched the clock get closer and closer to 3:30. There was complete silence in the room as my mind wandered into meeting up with Emily. It was an annual thing we did every Friday since we got out of secondary school. Just Emily and I snuck away in our secret place; the thought was just heavenly.

The last bell finally rang, snapping me out of my thoughts. I was the first one out the door as I bolted to my locker to go meet up at our secret location. Quickly jerking open my locker, a small piece of paper fluttered out as soon as my locker opened. I picked up the neatly folded piece of scrap paper and opened to discover another one of the letters that I kept getting daily. Today’s letter said:

I get the best feeling in the world when you say "Hi" or smile at me, because I know that even for second that I've crossed your mind.

The mini love letter was signed with a simple heart in pink pen; making me wonder who this secret admirer of mine could be. I got the rest of my binders, shoved them in my book bag, and stalked off with a love lust smile on my face to go meet up with Emily in the most romantic place in this entire school; the roof.

As soon as I but the cinder block in the door to stop the door from locking us out, I was attacked by a mass of blonde hair. Emily wrapped her arms around my neck and I wound my arms around her narrow waist. Burying my face in shoulder, I sucked in the scent of her shampoo; kiwis and pineapples.

She pulled away gently from our embrace, looked me in the eyes for a few seconds and then grasped my hand and led us over to our little section of the roof. It looked exactly the same as when we left it; Emily + James encircled with a heart inscribed into the brick wall, rose plants in 2 of the corners; it was the one and only JEMILY destination.

Emily let go of my hand and went over to the brick wall to stand on the edge of it. Her figure shined in the sun as she outstretched her arms on each of her sides, slightly swaying in the breeze. I walked casually over to her and put my hands on her waist. She turned her head back to me and smiled that loving smiling at me; the smiling that reassured me in every situation.

Soon enough, Emily started humming the Titanic theme song making me hum along. I stepped up onto the wall with her, my arms fully encircling her waist now. Her head lay back on my shoulder as we hummed together.

All of a sudden, Emily turned her head upward to look up into my eyes. “I’ve been thinking a lot lately, Jamesy,” She said, her nose crinkling up.

“What have you been thinking about?” I said before I kissed her forehead gently.

“About us.” Emily’s eyes gleamed as the sun delicately cast across her facial features.

“Us? What’s wrong with us?” I asked, my eyebrows knitting together.

“I just mean, I honestly don’t know what I would do without you,” Emily said, her voice wavering a bit.

“Don’t think too hard babe. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.”

Emily looked back up into my eyes and gave me one of those breathtaking smiles of hers; smiling with her eyes and her mouth.

We continued to stare at each other’s faces as the sun hang low on the horizon. When Emily looked down again, she said, “What if you weren’t here…when I needed you most. What if I didn’t have you and I was about to fall?”

“You wouldn’t fall,” I said, leaning my head against hers.

“Why not?”

“Because I would be there in a heartbeat to make sure that nothing happen to my baby.” Emily looked up into my eyes again and something sparked in them. It was like the North Star was in her eye.
