Protecting the one you love

Fubuki's P.O.V.

The whole operation went into complete chaos. We were so close to winning but things took a turn for the worse. I'm currently out of it. Kongou is carrying me to safety as the battle rages on.

Fubuki: (Y/n).

Kongou: Come on Bucky we got to get you somewhere safe.

Fubuki: But what about him?

Kongou: I'm sorry Bucky but I don't know.

I look back to see two legends facing off for the first time. A battle that shouldn't have happened.

Fubuki: No. Nooooo!

Three weeks earlier

I wake up early like I usually do to go run. I see the other girls are asleep but (Y/n) is already gone. I quietly leave the room and begin my morning run. After a few minutes of running I come across something laying on the ground. As I take a closer look I realize who it is.

Fubuki: (Y/n)! 

I quickly run to his side.

" Fubuki?"

Fubuki: Hey are you ok? What happened?

" I'm fine I think. I guess I haven't fully recovered yet."

Fubuki: You shouldn't push yourself. You just got out of the hospital a month ago. So please let me help you.

 I slowly helped him up and lead him to a bench.

" Thank you Fubuki."

Fubuki: It's no problem. But you should resting still. It's been a month since you got out and the injuries you had takes time to completely heal. 

He sighs.

" I'm sorry. It's just that there's been a lot on my mind literally and figuratively."

Fubuki: Is it about her. 

" Yes but there's more."

Fubuki: More?

" Yes. I've been told that within the month we are going to attack the Abyssal base and try to put an end to this war."

Fubuki: Wait are you serious.

" Yes I don't know the exact date yet though. But none the less I'm still scared."

Fubuki: Scared?

" Yes. We are talking about attacking the Abyssal base. It will be extremely dangerous. And I'm scared I won't be able to protect everyone. When the Abyssal's attacked the base I'm the one who got injured but you were almost sunk. I don't want to see that happen to anyone especially you. So I want to get stronger so that I can protect everyone."

I look at him.

Fubuki: ( He was just like me back then.) I know how you feel. I wanted to try my best. I was scared especially when we lost Kisaragi. I wanted to be stronger so I could protect the ones I cared about. But I learned something. You can become stronger with training but you can become even stronger if you learn from others and find what's important. Think of the people most important to you and trust them and use that as strength. Believe in them.

" The people most important to me huh. I never really I had that feeling to much. At least until now. I'm just scared of losing it again."

Fubuki: ( This is the first time I really seen him like this. He's shaking pretty bad. I have to calm him down.) ( Y/n)!

I quickly grab hold of his hand. He looks at me in surprise.

Fubuki: I want to help you.

" Help me?" 

Fubuki: I would feel the same way you would feel if I were to loose someone again especially if it was you. So I want you to promise me something.

" Promise you what?"

Fubuki: Promise me that you'll let me protect you and in return you protect me.

" Fubuki?"

Fubuki: I know I'm not as strong as the others but I want to protect the person I care about most so will you let me ( There's no going back.) protect the one I love.

" Did you just say that you love me?"

At this point I know I'm blushing bright red.

Fubuki: Yes. I said I love you. It's only natural that I want to protect the one I love right?

He squeezes my hand but not painfully or hard. It was almost like a burden was lifted off him. It was like it was comfort to him holding my hand.

" There's no way I can say no to that. I also what to protect the one I love. So I promise you that I'll protect the one I love and in return you do the same."

Fubuki: You said it too. 

" Of course. I was going to tell you after I got injured but Kongou kinda ruined that confession so you ended up beating be to it. So here it is again. I love you fubuki. But is alright, is this ok for me to love you?

Fubuki: Of course. We love each other right so I wouldn't have it any other way. And it's only natural that we want to protect each other. That's what it means to love someone. You want to be there for them. You want to love and cherish them. And you want to protect them.

I bring him closer to me and wrap my arms around him.

Fubuki: I want to protect you. So please protect me in return and stay by my side and I promise I'll stay by yours.

He slowly wraps his arms around me.

" Thank you Fubuki. I promise I'll protect you and stay by your side. So please protect me."

Fubuki: I promise I'll protect you.

" Thank you for everything Fubuki."

That day we made a promise. A promise between two people who love each other. But even if they love each other doesn't mean they can keep it. Later is when I realize it, it's a promise that I won't be able to keep.
