Why can't I tell him?

{LUCY'S POV}
I take a deep breath, clenching my fists. "I'm going to tell him, this time for sure!"

"Lu-chan," Levy-chan sighs. "That's what you've been saying for the past week and you still haven't told Natsu the truth."

"Told me what truth?" Natsu asks, popping out of thin air behind me. I yelp, jumping out of my seat.

"Told you I... uh... I want to go on a job! Rent doesn't pay itself you know." I laugh awkwardly.

Natsu perks up. "Sure! I'll go pick one."

I wave as he leaves, then plop down in relief. Thank Mavis he's dense. Feeling a stare drilling holes in my back, I slowly turn to face Levy-chan.

I cringe. "Okay, so I didn't tell him. But next time, next time for sure."

"Uh-huh." For some reason, Levy-chan isn't convinced. I guess I know the reason. It's already been a week since I learned I was pregnant.

Natsu's the father. We got drunk, and under the influence of alcohol... well, you know what I mean so I'll skip over that part. Afterwards, I went to confront Natsu about it, only to find out that that dense idiot had completely forgotten.

Mortified, I went to Levy-chan. That was seven weeks ago. At first I felt fine, but then I started getting morning sickness almost as bad as Natsu's motion sickness. I didn't want to believe it.

I claimed to be fine, which I thought worked for Levy-chan until last week, when she suddenly pinned me down and had Wendy preform a medical evaluation on me. That confirmed it; I have a little Dragneel growing inside me.

And so, for the past week, I've been desperately looking for a way to bring it up with Natsu, and failing miserably.

"But, Levy-chan," stupid hormones make me wanna cry, "what if he rejects me and the baby?"

"He won't. He isn't ready to be a father, but he won't reject you Lu-chan."

"That makes me feel even worse!" I wail. I don't want Natsu to accept us out of obligation!

"What's wrong Lushi, why are you crying?" Happy flies over and lands on the table.

I try to stop the tears, but they just keep flowing. Stupid, stupid hormones!

"What's the matter Luce?" Natsu asks, coming over with a job request.

I leap to my feet. "N-Nothing! Let's go!" I lean down and whisper in Levy-chan's ear, "I promise I'll tell him on this job."

"You better. You're only digging yourself a deeper hole by waiting. It's gonna start showing really soon." Levy-chan whispers back. I quickly leave the guild hall with Natsu and Happy.

"Are you sure you want to go on this job? You smell kinda weird, like two Lucys in one." Natsu says, making me jump.

"W-What do you mean?" The second 'Lucy' he smells is obviously the baby! Is this my chance?

"I dunno. You've probably got something growing inside you." Natsu says. It's now or never.

I gulp. "Actually, Natsu, I'm preg—"

"Do you have tapeworms Lucy?" He interrupts.

"...HAH!?"

"I just thought maybe you've got tapeworms growing inside you."

"Natsu," I raise my trembling fist, tic mark on my forehead. "You idiot!" I slap him.

"But you really smell like two Lucys." He scratches his head, perplexed.

"That implies you think I smell like tapeworms!" I'm tempted to slap him again, but it's pointless. Leave it to Natsu Dragneel to think tapeworms before he thinks baby.

"It's weird. I thought you might be sick because you're shiny too." Natsu explains. My skin does have that healthy pregnancy glow.

"Maybe I'm just using a different skin care product." I scowl, not liking this turn in conversation.

"But Lushi, you never cared about your appearance before." Happy says.

Cue more tic marks. "Shut up, you stupid cat!" I Lucy kick him in anger. Wasn't I crying just a minute ago? Ahh, mood swings.

By that point, we've reached the train station. Happy pays for the train tickets, while I prevent Natsu from running away.

We get on the train without incident and leave the station. "What's the job?" I ask Happy, while Natsu foams at the mouth.

He shows me the job request, eating a fish. "Beating up some gang members."

My eyes scan it and my mouth drops open in shock. "300 of them?!" I rub my belly, worried about my baby. Happy sees me rubbing my stomach.

"You hungry Lushi?" He misunderstands.

I tense. "U-Uh, sure! Hungry, that's totally it!"

Happy goes to get me some food, and I hang my head. I can't even get the courage to tell Happy. Wait a minute. Happy's gone now. No one's in this train car except us. I could tell Natsu now!

I look down at him, using my lap as a pillow. He's entered an uneasy sleep.

"Luce, I lo..." Natsu mumbles, but tosses in his sleep, jumbling up what he said after.

My face turns bright red. Is he dreaming about me? I bite my lip. Geez, why can't I tell him?

Happy comes back with a bunch of fish and offers me some. It's raw, so I refuse, even though I am actually pretty hungry.

Finally, the train reaches our stop. I drag Natsu off the train, and as soon as his feet touch motionless ground, he's instantly revived.

"Alright! I'm fired up now!" As proof, Natsu breathes a stream of fire into the air. We go poking around the town, and almost immediately Natsu antagonizes a gang member.

"You'll pay for that!" The gang member yells, throwing a punch. It doesn't even affect Natsu, who cracks his knuckles, smirks, and sends the guy flying without even using magic.

After Natsu interrogates him and finds out where their base is, he and Happy fly there, while I tie the first guy up.

The guy smirks suddenly, and a second later I know why, as a hand comes from behind and clamps over my mouth.

"Mmmph!" I try to shout, but his grip is iron. I grab for my keys, but the second guy reaches them first and throws them to the ground.

I struggle, not about to give in meekly. I have my baby to think about, after all. The one holding me tosses a knife to the gang member I tied up.

He turns and catches it even with his hands tied behind his back. He begins sawing at the ropes, and turns all my hard work tying those ropes to naught as they fall to the ground.

That pisses me off, and trust me, you do not want to mess with a hormonal, pissed off, pregnant woman. Just sayin'.
