Oliver Scott Sykes was born on November 20, 1986 to Ian and Carol Sykes.

He was born in Ashford, Kent in South East England. In 2005, It was voted the fourth best place to live in the United Kingdom.

Oli then moved to Adelaide, South Australia. Over the next five years, Oli moved from Adelaide to Perth, Western Australia. When Oli was about 8 years old, He moved back to the UK, he then lived in Stocksbridge in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The city of Sheffield is also known as "The Steel City". As a teenager, he attended Stockbridge High School. Oli's favorite subjects in school were English and Art. Oli had no interest in Science or Math.

When Oli was about 17 years old, he started putting together compilation CD's and Short Tracks under the name "Quakebeat". He also played in 2 other bands. One was "Womb 2 Da Tomb" which was a rap/hip hop group, Along with Matt Nicholls (Current Bring Me The Horizon Drummer) And Oli's brother Tom Sykes. Then, when he was 17 he started another band, this one with considered to be a "two-man deathrash band". Oli played drums/vocals, His friend from school, Neil Whiteley was also a vocalist in another one of Oli's projects: Purple Curto. Afterwards, Oli just started making his own beats under the name Olisaurus.

Oliver Sykes is also the founder and owner of the clothing brand Drop Dead. The first Drop Dead shop was officially opened in 2005 in Sheffield, England. The clothes are designed by Ben Ashton Bell. Drop Dead clothes are "The Best In Steel City". They ship worldwide and you can order their clothes online. Aside from clothes, there are also jewelry, stuffed animals, phone cases and more. Drop Dead Clothing is one of the most popular alternative clothing and accessories lines in the world with a net worth of £1.8m ($2,777,040). In addition, the brand now sells Dead Twisted Vegan Sauces in five flavors that were created by the executive chef of the Twisted Burger Company in Sheffield, England.

Oliver Sykes is currently 32 years old. Aside from music, Oli has written a book called Raised By Raptors, he got the idea from a sketch from his Drop Dead clothing designer Ben Ashton Bell. He hosted a kick start project, with a goal of $24,368 (£15,000) to launch his book, and it has been successfully funded with the help of 1,619 backers on March 19, 2013. The project exceeded its target within weeks of launching.

He was formerly married to model and tattoo artist Hannah Pixie Snowdon. Hannah Snowdon is the tattooist of her shop Black Stabbath Tattoo, located in Sheffield, England. They were in a relationship from December of 2013 to May of 2016. They were married on July 12, 2015 in Tuscany, Italy. On May 27th, 2016 Oliver tweeted: "Well at least I know what the next albums going to be about." with a broken heart emoji. The tweet was later deleted. On the same day, Hannah removed her last name Sykes from both her Instagram and Twitter bios and instead put her maiden name. A photo of a man was also posted on her Instagram, along with the caption: "Ladies & gentlemen the man I cheated on my husband with." Both Hannah and Oliver have said openly on social media that she was hacked that day and that it was not true, but Hannah later went on to say that it was true and that she did cheat on Oli after he cheated on her multiple times. In July of 2016, Oliver posted on Instagram telling his fans: "All you need to know is me and Hannah are separated and it's been over for quite some time."

He began to date Alissa Salls, a model from Brazil and after over a year of dating, they got married on July 22, 2017.
