Protecting His Son

Obito Uchiha wouldn't call himself good. But he wouldn't say he was bad either. Not until he found himself slaughtering dozens of mist Anbu in the wake of Ron's death. Kakashi lay unconscious in front of her. Obito couldn't lie to himself. He saw the way Rin threw herself in the way of Kakashi's Chidori, saw the pain in Kakashi's face. But part of him denied it fervently. It was Kakashi's fault. Kakashi took Rin from him. The two parts of Obito warred with each other as he cradled Rin's body in his arms. This tore Obito's soul in half, and causing Tobi, the hateful, angered, revenge driven half, to suppress Obito.

Kami watched as the tragedy happened. The holy being was shocked when the boys soul ripped apart. The boy would be unable to live like this. So Kami coaxed out Obito, and placed him in limbo, leaving Tobi to return to Madara. Kami played her part, now it was Fates turn.

In Konoha, on the tenth of October a child was born. His parents were joyful, for all of ten minutes, before a man in a mask appeared, ripping away any chance for happiness. See, the mother to the child was special. She contained a powerful fox spirit, that was constructed of pure chakra. Her name, was Kushina Uzumaki. The masked man was after the fox spirit. So he ripped it from her, and controlled it to attack the village. The Father was the leader of the village, the Hokage. His name was Minato Namikaze. He fought the masked man, freeing the beast from his control, and injuring him deeply. Meanwhile, the Fox, otherwise known as Kyuubi, was causing major damage to the village. Minato used his Hirashin to teleport to the fox.

The fox shot a Bijudama straight at the Hokage Monument where Minato stood. Minato pulled out one of his special kunai, holding it out in front of him. He used Hirashin stage two to teleport the Bijudama out of the village. He then summoned Gamabunta, the chief toad.

He used the Hirashin to teleport the fox, Gamabunta and him out of the village, where his son, Naruto was. He summoned a sealing alter, and placed Naruto on it. The Kyuubi, seeing what was happening, lashed out, only to be restricted by glowing Chains. Minato drew the seal and performed a series of handsigns. Slamming his hands together he summoned the Shinigami who sealed half of the Kyuubi into Naruto and took the other half along with Minato. Minato struggled to keep his soul long enough to finish the sealing. The Kyuubi broke free of the chains and lashed out, intending to impale the baby. Kushina and Minato flung themselves in front of the claw, shielding Naruto. The rest of the fox was sucked into the seal causing Minato and Kushina to fall limply to the ground.

Kami saw her chance. She pulled Obito out of limbo, and allowed a small amount of pity to show on her face, because he would wake up to thinking it was still the day of Rins death, not Two years later. She attached his soul to Narutos Seal. His eyes fluttered open. He gaped at her. "Who are you! And where am I?!" He asked.

"You are to look after Minato Namikazes Child. Beware, much time has passed since I collected your soul. Do not become your other half. The Child will not be able to see you until he is of an adequate age. Go." Little did Kami know that Naruto had special eyes.

Obito suddenly appeared in front of a dying Kushina and Minato. He gasped, tears in his eyes as he witnessed their deaths. Minato looked up and met Obitos eyes. "O...Bito?" He coughs, blood staining his lips. Obito nods mutely. Minato smiles. "T..ake Care of...Naruto. He...will need as...many...friends as...possible. Tell him... I'm sorry I wasn't there. Me...and Kushina." The light faded from his blue eyes and Tears flowed down Obitos face. He fell to his knees, sobs wracking his form. He froze when he heard a wail. He walked over to the sound, and saw a baby.

He had a tuft of blond hair, and three whisker marks on his cheeks. "Shh, Naruto? That's your name? Shh Naruto." Obito asked. He had no idea how to deal with babies, especially newborns. Surprisingly, Naruto stopped crying, staring at Obito in curiosity. He gurgled and Obito smiled sadly. "Hello Naruto. I'm Obito. I'll look after you." Naruto just gurgled again. Obito picked Naruto up and caressed the whisker lines on his face. "Kami, you are so adorable!" Obito tried to be happy, but it was hard. Especially with his dead sensei and his wife lying right behind him.

He put Naruto down when he heard footsteps and a gasp. "Minato-sensei! Kushina-nee!" Obito froze. He knew that voice. He turned and saw Kakashi kneeling in front of their sensei. He was roughed up, most likely from the attack. Not a minute later, the Sandaime appeared, gazing sadly at Minato and Kushina, before looking around and spotting Naruto, who was staring at a spot in the air. He went over, picked Naruto up and turned back to Kakashi, who now had an ANBU mask on. "Inu. Report to the tower and send out team Ro to rally the living. Ibiki and the rest of T&I will gather and identify the dead."

Obito watched as they leaped away, only to leap after the Third when he was out of sight. He had a promise to keep. He wasn't planning on breaking it anytime soon. He followed the ninja to the Hokage tower, taking in the damage to the village. He continued on, feeling as if this were his fault. He watched as the Third spoke to the council and heard the words that enraged the villagers. "The Fourth died sealing the fox into this child, Naruto Uzumaki!"
