"I love you, " I said, with hope in my heart. As the seconds pass my breath becomes heavier, colder. My throat tightens. "I love you" I said, with a foolish hope that he hadn't heard me. Silence danced in the air. "Why won't you say it back?" I said, with the most innocent voice. Silence kept dancing. "Why don't you love me?" the words struggled out of my mouth and my throat was so tight I swear I couldn't breathe. If you could hear a heart break, it would have sounded like mine in this moment. "It's fine, you don't have to say anything", I said as rationality kicked in. "If you want to break up with me, you can", I said, thinking he would say 'I want you', that this was my happy ending in my own movie. But it seems as though a movie is just a movie.
"If you want to break up with me, you can"... And he did.
