~Y/N's POV~
You're shaking. You barely notice anything happening as you follow the directions your mom gives you.
"Left. Okay, now right. Through this ally." Your mind flickers to your Squip, with both hope and grief fluttering around in your chest. If you get him back, will you be able to see your mom's Squip, and will she be able to see yours? Is he okay? Is he even still alive? You just follow your mom, so deep in thought that you're nearly bumping into everybody. You remember his smile, his tears, the way he forced you to destroy the razors you nearly used to destroy yourself. He was nothing less than perfect for you, and he's dead. At this thought, you stop walking through the crowd try to fight back tears. You're so close to getting him back. But he's also dead. Every hope that he's still alive is futile. You may as well head back now. Just get used to the harrowing sorrow that drains every bit of happiness and pleasure from your eyes.
Before you know it, tears are already dripping down your cheeks. Your mom is still walking on, not paying attention to the fact that you aren't by her side anymore. You fight your way through the crowd to the brick wall of a building covered in graffiti. You slide down, sitting against the wall with your legs tucked against your chest. You bury your head in your knees. So close, but he's long gone. That's all you tell yourself. That's all you can tell yourself.
Suddenly, you feel yourself being hefted back up onto your feet.
"Y/N, let's get going. Your mind is probably telling you that he's dead and there's no hope, right?" your mom says, concern in her eyes.
"Y-Yeah..." You can't help but stammer even though he helped you get rid of that habit. You're breaking, and can't be expected to be perfect.
"There's still hope." She glances up to her side. "I should? But wouldn't it ruin her spirit?" You stiffen, fear clenching your stomach.
"Mom, just tell me. I need to know." She sighs.
"Fine. But this is only because... he's telling me that you need to know and it may motivate you."
"Just say it."
"Um, as it turns out," she pauses, "there's only a ten percent chance that he's still alive at this point and fully remembers you."
"How is that supposed to motivate me?" you yell, suddenly feeling incredibly dizzy.
"We can keep that chance if we hurry up. The longer we sit here flapping our lips, the less possible it is for him to stay alive." You still feel depressed, but she has a good point. There's no way to make it more possible that he's alive, but you can keep it where it's at. That's the best you can do. No harm in trying. Dizziness gone, you grab your mom's arm and pull her along the direction you had been walking.
"Then let's go. Which way now?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and your mom walk together into an ally. From the looks of it, it's just a normal ally. But your mom's Squip is insisting this is the place where you can get your Squip back. There's a wooden door in the wall. It almost looks surreal. On the jog here, you considered names again. Unfortunately, you could only think of names from musicals. For example, Alexander, Justin, John, Phillip, Evan, Connor, Jared, the list goes on. Michael may have had some good ideas. You tap your mom on the shoulder.
"Hold up. I need to check something." You turn off airplane mode and check your messages with Michael.
Y/N: Thanks!
Michael: NP
Michael: How about Evan? Maybe you could introduce him to trees
Michael: JK
Michael: I just checked one of those baby name websites and found one that stands out to me for some reason
Michael: How about Eric?
Michael: Text me when you get to Japan and you can text me
Eric. Eric. Eric. It sounds good and is just a decent name in general. You'll run it by him when he comes back. But even though you have no time, you should text him back. Because you are a polite person.
Y/N: Hey. That's actually really good, I'll run it by him. I might be getting him back soon. Like, really soon. I'll let you know if he's back.
That should be sufficient. You turn back to your mom, and taking a deep breath, you walk in front of her and right in front of the door in the sketchy Japanese ally. You cling to any bit of hope you can to keep your composure. The longer you take having a panic attack or whatever the less chance there is of him still being alive. Taking a deep breath and stifling your shaking, you step through the door into the bright room.
~Squip's POV~
Another shock takes over his body. Endless pain. He's crouching a bit, hands on his knees, panting a little bit like a runner after a marathon. He's been in here for what feels like an eternity. Everything stops, and he stands. The pain is gone. Hope fills his chest as he glances around this dark cyber prison. Why is he even hopeful? The chance that Y/N still wants him, gets to Japan, and is going to be here in time is too small to hope even a little bit. They hate him, he's sure of it. He's been an awful Squip; jealous and full of emotion. It was fun while it lasted, but in the long run, he shouldn't have ever decided to love you.
His memory starts to dissipate. It's starting. What was your name again? What color were your eyes? Everything about you that had fascinated him so much was slowly disappearing. He knows that his emotions will be next. All to serve an awful purpose-- he has to remember... he has to tell you everything somehow... he has to keep his memory. He has to keep you in his mind. Protect you, keep you safe. But it's all over now. He's gone like the wind.
A/N: Cliffhanger. Sorry. Quick spoiler: He will actually come back, no matter how bad it seems right now. Anyways, the next update should be sooner than this one was... School's over now, so I have more time to write. So, yeah. The next chapter should be the last. Maybe there will be an epilogue after said last chapter? You can give me ideas in the comments. Thanks for reading!
