He yawned loudly and rose from his sleeping place. He smacked his lips and walked from his den. Moving out into the morning sun, he stretched and breathed in the fresh forest air. Another beautiful day.
He began lazily traipsing his way towards the watering hole, passing many others on his way. He was well-liked; Pokémon smiled and waved as he passed, and he greeted them cheerfully.
Arriving at the pond he plunged his head into the water's cool depths, attempting to quench his thirst. Drinking his fill, he raised his head again, sighing contently. In the water's surface he saw his reflection, a Jolteon with a perfect life.
He didn't have any family nearby, but it didn't bother him, he didn't need family. He had plenty of friends; even now a Noctowl called to him as he passed under her tree.
"Good morning Aaron. Beautiful day is it not?"
"Morning Martha, a beautiful day indeed. Perfect for sunbathing I think."
"More sunbathing?"
"What can I say? Bathing is nice, doing it in the sun is even better."
"There is more to life than sunbathing."
"So I've heard." He replied with a chuckle. "Bye Martha, have a good one."
"Thank-you. Enjoy your laziness and lack of responsibility."
"I always do."
Aaron marched through the woods looking for his favourite spot, it didn't take him long to find. This little part of the forest was quiet and well hidden. It was a small clearing and, in the middle, sat the perfect sunning rock.
Aaron stretched and lay on the cool rock. It felt nice as he relaxed and soaked in the sun's rays. He'd just got comfortable and had finished settling in when he heard it. It was quiet and faraway, but his sensitive ears detected the noise easily. His ears swivelled as he listened intently and curiously traced the noise back to its source.
The noise was like a shrieking sound, something was crying, but its screams were choked and high-pitched.
After ten minutes of searching through the familiar forest he found what was causing the noise. A Pokémon egg lay abandoned, cracked but not broken. The Pokémon inside was stuck and couldn't get out.
Carefully using his claws and nose Aaron picked away at the unbroken shell to reveal the Pokémon inside. The crying stopped as the sun shone upon the baby. Aaron tilted his head curiously, he didn't recognise this Pokémon. It was small, had a blue coat, a creme underbelly and several red circles on its back.
The baby Pokémon's smile was unnaturally adorable, and its tiny giggling was sickly cute. Aaron backed away cautiously and looked around.
"Hello! Anyone here? There's a baby Pokémon here, kinda cute and ugly at the same time, looks really weird."
After a moment's silence he tried again. "Hey! Someone's baby is here!"
No one responded.
Aaron frowned at the little furball. "Well kid looks like you're on your own. Good luck; see ya round maybe." He turned and began walking away from the egg but stopped upon hearing a cracking noise.
Turning around Aaron saw that the egg had tipped over and the baby had spilled onto the ground. It giggled strangely as it crawled towards him like some sort of menacing demon baby.
It obviously couldn't walk so it just dragged its fat body through the dirt until it was clutching Jolteon's rear paw. Aaron sighed and shook it off, it just giggled again and crawled until it was directly underneath him.
Aaron rolled his eyes and started walking away from the baby. It laughed and followed after him until he disappeared into the bushes. As he vanished from sight it started crying.
He kept walking, but he couldn't stop his ears ringing; with that child screaming he would never enjoy peace again. He sighed reluctantly as he decided to take the baby to someone who knows about children.
As he walked back towards the baby it stopped crying. He grunted and picked it up by the scruff of the neck. So much for sunbathing.
After a short walk Aaron gently placed the child on the ground and looked upwards.
"Martha! You home?"
"Yes Aaron." Replied a tired voice from a high tree branch. "I'm cleaning my nest, what do you need?"
"I got you something, you need to come down and get it though."
Martha sighed and muttered and flew down from her nest. Landing beside Aaron she raised an expectant eyebrow. He stepped aside and allowed her sight of the baby Pokémon. It was snoring and fast asleep. Martha gasped.
"Aaron! You stole a baby?"
Aaron was insulted. "No! I found a baby. You're good with kids and you know lots of different Pokémon, I figured you could keep it."
"I can't keep it! That's a baby Cyndaquil: a fire-type! I can't keep that thing in my nest!"
With all of Martha's shouting and frantic flapping of wings Cyndaquil woke up. It gave a little yawn, and looked around; after seeing Aaron it crawled towards the Jolteon and began nuzzling his legs.
Aaron glared at the infernal creature. "Nuisance."
"Aaron!" Martha scolded. "That's no way to speak to your daughter."
