13. Sweet Punishment

After that stupid meeting in the music room, I was at the bathroom when I overheard a couple of girls from Aaliyah's clique talking about Aaliyah and Omkara's relationship. Hey! But there was no such thing as that!

Still I was too curious to let this go and sat there in my stall and eavsdropped on them. I couldn't make out exactly what they were saying but I definitely heard the words, benefits and break up.

"So you have worked out that Aaliyah is sucking up to bhaiya because she wants something from him?" Mishti asked me sceptically at lunch.

"Yeah. I am sure she is upto something. And maybe she is giving him some benefit in return".

Zoya looked shocked, "What do you mean 'giving him benefits'? Think and speak Riya!"

But I soon found out what Aaliyah wanted!

I was in the library sitting in a study cubicle when I saw her come in with Omkara.

"Its a good thing you ditched Lisa. But don't you think you made a bad choice with Riya?"

I pricked up my ears at once.

"Riya is doing her job right", Omkara said stiffly and I was pleased to hear a note of irritation in his voice.

"Yeah but you saw the way she treated me at Reyansh's party. She is off balance!" Aaliyah said slightly desperately, "She doesn't deserve to hold a position like this. You should trust me with the job".

AHA! So the prat wanted my post! Aaliyah Khurana was a cobra!

I got up from the study cubicle and dashed out of the library, before either of them could see me. I went straight back to class. I couldn't wait to update my BFF'S.

Meanwhile, I had thought Loukya mam's drama dose for that day was over. But no!

The next period we had her class. I had just told Mishti and Zoya what I heard in the library. They were both totally shocked. Zoya kept talking to me when Loukya mam spotted us.

"Riya. Zoya. Get out of my class. Now!"

Good. Now we could talk in peace.

I and Zoya picked up our books and walked out of the class with as much audacity as we dared to show while Mishti shook her head at us disbelievingly.

Once out, we turned towards the glass windows overlooking the lawns below so that nobody passing by the corridors would see our faces.

Through the glass, we saw two people standing in the pathway below the neem tree and talking. We squinted to see who it was and to our surprise it was Omkara and Lisa!

"So they're back together", Zoya squealed.

"Yeah, he must have realised what a witch Aaliyah is".

"I can't believe bhaiya has bunked his class though" Zoya said looking down. They were holding hands and all of a sudden with no warning, they started kissing. Zoya stared at them in shock. I quickly turned away, closing my mouth with my hands and giggled.

A teacher happened to walk down the corridor just then and glared as he crossed us. I heard him muttering, "Hopeless students", as he went.

"Hopeless?" Zoya ranted to me, "Wait till he sees what's happening down! Head Boy bunking classes to hang out with his girlfriend! How romantic!"

I had very rarely seen Zoya lose her head about teachers. That was more of my department.

We turned back to the window to see the blockbuster scene that was still going on, "It's sad I don't have my phone with me. I would have liked to capture that!" I said seriously. Zoya laughed.
