Chapter 2

The day dad left
I was 12 at the time and David was just a little newborn baby. So this is how I remember the night......

"Evelyn go up to bed it's getting late and you have school tomorrow"said mother. I didn't want to agree because at 12 years old going to bed isn't the highlight of the day but I agreed "do I have to"mum replied with the typical look that all children will know means there mother means business so I agreed and after saying goodnight to mum and dad I went to get into my pyjamas and brush my teeth. While I was brushing my teeth I heard a loud BANG but thought nothing of it at the time.

I went into bed,after making sure David is was ok and sleeping, but I couldn't get to sleep. I heard shouting from down stairs and just guessed mum and dad where having a typical argument but then I heard another bang and mum started crying. I started crying.I think dad hit mum. I didn't know what to do. So I started to try get to sleep, as I had nearly drifted of I heard dad shouting again he said some words, I knew what they meant but I also knew they where not the type of thing you say to anyone, so I knew dad was very very angry then I heard him say "IM LEAVING". Then I heard the door slam. Dad had threatened to leave on many times before so I went to sleep knowing I would wake up and he'd be there but, he wasn't. Mum woke me up for school she looked exhausted and her eyes were red,so I presumed she had spent most of the night cry instead of sleeping. I was going to ask her what happened but to be honest I didn't think I wanted to know. I looked all around the house but dad wasn't there, so I thought he'd be home when I got back from school, but he wasn't so I thought he'd be back by dinner, but he wasn't so I thought he'd be back by bedtime, but he wasn't.

I thought he'd be home eventually, but he wasn't

I haven't seen dad since then and as it was so hard at the time I don't really miss him because he obviously doesn't care about me or David because he left and made no effort to see us. So now we are a family of three.
