When I went downstairs my mum started laughing her head off, she started saying that I looked like a clown with all that lipstick smudged all over my face. She made me take of the lipstick, nevertheless she let me keep on the blusher, and eye shadow, and my mums said the lipstick would get on my food and make it taste horrible. She had made my favorite food; ribbon pasta, with tomato sauce, and smiley potato chips, and chicken salad. All of a sudden there was a knock at the door. The way the person knocked reminded me of something, it rang warning bells in my head...so familiar - I froze, I know why it is so familiar it sounded just like dads knock...

My mum looked like a fox trapped by a cars headlights. I started pulling at her shirt, and whimpering, I wanted her to do something - anything, I was terrified, what was he going to do to us? Suddenly my mum flew into action, she ushered me upstairs, and told me to hide in my wardrobe, and not to come out no matter what. I ran up the stairs, every breath I was taking ringing in my ears. Was he going to kill us?

I ran into the wardrobe, and slammed the door shut behind me. I could hear arguing downstairs, and I heard a very familiar voice, a voice that had been swearing and screaming the last time I heard it. This time, the voice is still swearing and screaming. I hear running footsteps on the stairs, my door in banged open, and I see my mum run in and grab my lamp. Following her is a broad dark figure I recognize instantly, its dad. He follows mum in with clenched fists, and spit flying from his mouth. He looks terrifying. He reaches over to mum almost as if to hit her, but she throws a lampshade at him, she missed, and instead she hit the beautiful, glass mirror I got for my sixth birthday. It smashed into a thousand bits. Dad grabbed a glass shard, and stabbed her with it, he just kept stabbing her over, and over again. My mum started to scream for help, but I never helped, I just watched. Frozen by my own fear. Once my dad was done, he just stabbed himself like that, and collapsed over. He was dead, and so was my mum...

I never understood what just happened. All I knew was that I had to get to a phone, and phone the police. I pushed open the door, and avoided looking at my mother, and fathers mangled body. Maybe, just maybe she was alive. But deep down another part of me that already knew my mother was dead, was grieving. The rest of my body still to numb to feel any sort of pain. I was almost by the phone in my mum's room, when I slipped, and knocked my head on the floor, and then everything went dark...

When I woke up everything was silent, apart from police sirens in the distance. I couldn't see much, it was night time. What just happened? I couldn't remember. All of a sudden I hear laughter. I hear my mother singing. I feel her warm arms wrapped around me. I hear banging, I can hear the screaming. What is going on down there? I hear my name being called, I peer over the banister, there's nothing down there. I remember I might have left something in my mums room. What could it have been? Maybe I could ask my mum...

Oh no! I remember. I remember the sound of a mirror breaking. The shards of glass, being used as a knife. The blood spreading. My mother screaming for help. And most of all I remember me... just hiding in the cupboard. Peeking through a hole. Watching him hack her to death. Doing nothing. I hear someone call my voice again. It's coming from the window. The window is wide open. I don't remember opening it? The curtains move. The light sways. I walk over to the window, and there is my friend Maria. Just hovering outside the window. Stretching her hand out for me to hold. Her face pulled up at the corners, in her friendly smile. Will you be my friend she whisperers. I say yes, and I know what I have to do. If I do this, I will see mum again I will see Maria again. Unfortunately I will see dad again, but that can't be helped. I step onto the window ledge. I can hear voices egging me on saying do it do it Sara. I take one foot off the ledge. It's really slippery. I wonder if my mum will be wearing her white dress, with the blue stars on it.

I can't wait to smell her familiar smell of roses and lily's. I'm leaning forward now. One little push and Ill fall. All of a sudden, I hear shouting. It's Aunt Julie and the cops. They are telling me to not jump. But it's too late, I'm already falling- no not falling, flying... Everything is passing me by so quickly, the trees, the people, it's all so, so bright. CRACK! What is that horrible noise? Why are people screaming? Oh! It's probably because they've seen mum and Maria I think, I mean they are meant to be dead. I try to get up and join them, but my legs won't move! Patience my mum says, patience my child don't worry you'll be able to move in a second. My mum is right, I am able to move now, I feel so free and alive. I'm also flying! I go over to join my mum, not even bothering to listen to the screaming and shouting, or look at the paramedics crowded around a little child in the snow. I just go over to mum, and Maria. We all hold hands, and start walking away through trees and buildings, almost as if we are ghosts...
