Saturday. The day that Jordan would't have to go to work. The day that Jordan can spend a full day at home. The day that Jordan watches an exciting zombie movie. The day that Jordan collapses into his couch, slowly falling asleep.
Jordan absolutely loved horror films. More specifically, zombie films. Every week on a Saturday, he would always watch a zombie film and he would always dream about the world collapsing and him being the last man on Earth.
These sound like the fantasies of a kid, am I right? Well, Jordan honestly has no goal in his life. No chosen career, no education, not enough money and the only way he gets money is through working six times a week just to get a small amount of money.
His parents had left him when he was very young, so young to a point where he doesn't even remember who his parents were. But it was his sister, Elysha that stood by his side the whole time. She helped Jordan, fed him, protected him, healed him all the way to this day however, Elysha did not know the roles that parents are meant to play and therefore led to Jordan having no specific aspirations.
Jordan was lying down on his couch thinking about what movie to watch until he picked one and slowly began to fall asleep.
After he dozed off, Elysha said to a dormant Jordan,
"Hey, I'm gonna get the groceries yeah? See you!"
She waited for a few seconds expecting a reply but not getting one, Elysha shook her head and left the house.
While this was happening, Jordan was having a nightmare. Well, a dream for him but a nightmare for any other human being.
He was walking down a dark alleyway in the full moon, stepping very gently so that not a single sound could be heard. Then suddenly, a twig cracked around the corner and a figure with a deformed face appeared.
Seeing that it was looking at prey, it started to growl very loudly, only to be cut short with the axe of Jordan hacking through its head. However, hearing the growl, many more of them began to close in on Jordan.
He was starting to sweat waterfalls as he tried to find a way through this chaos, and he noticed a small opening in between the arc of wanderers. He sprinted right through it and chopped off the heads of any of them reaching out for him.
The zombies's growling commotion began to slowly fade away as Jordan opened the huge glass doors of a hotel and boosted straight through.
He sat down in the shadows, until he began to hear those same growling sounds coming from a few meters away from him.
Suddenly, there was a massive blast, so powerful that anybody standing on the ground would have been swept off their feet like they were on ice. However, this blast had bigger impacts.
Groaning in pain after landing directly onto the center of his back, Jordan opened his eyes and looked through the window, only to see some sort of green smoke which was so thick that it seemed endless.
Perplexed, Jordan lazily stood up to his feet, still feeling the pain from falling on his back earlier. It felt as if time had slowed down as he strolled over to the door and unlocked it. What he realised that the world had turned into, filled him up with excitement.
But it wasn't the excitement you get when you finally beat your high score in a game. It wasn't the excitement you get when you beat your friend in a test at school. It wasn't the excitement you get when you get a puppy on your birthday. It wasn't the excitement that you get when you finally did something that nobody else could do. It was a strange sort of excitement, with most of it being fear.
However, all of these emotions were shut down as he saw the corpse of a woman on the floor. She was only around two meters away from him and Jordan wanted to approach her, but seeing what else was around him, what if she had become one of them too?
It was only until he got closer that he realised it was someone who had guided him his whole life that was lying on the floor: Elysha. As he saw the house keys on one hand and her favorite hand bag on the other hand, tears began swelling up in his eyes.
These were only short emotions though, as Elysha made a sort of croaked sound.
"Elysha! Thank God are you ok?" questioned Jordan.
He started to get closer until she made a growling sound that seemed very familiar. Wasn't this the sound that the zombies would make in movies? Wasn't this the sound that made Jordan jump up in excitement? Wasn't this the sound that Jordan had experienced in his dream and wasn't this the sound that was made by a wanderer when they sense prey?
Elysha stood up in an awkward way and she slowly turned around, revealing her deformed face, bloody mouth and eyes that were whiter than snow.
"Elysha please don't..." pleaded Jordan. However, he realised later that this was not Elysha anymore. This was not that caring and fun sister anymore. This was not the sister that helped Jordan through his whole life. This was not the sister that had helped Jordan through his toughest problems. This was one of the wanderers who are now MINDLESS.
