'You see only what I allow you to see.
Tell me, how am I oppressed?'@HopesPrayersNSmiles
Hijab.
The first thing that comes in our mind when we here this word is 'an image of a Muslim woman wearing a piece of cloth on her head', right?
But let me introduce you to the actual meaning of Hijab.
Hijab is used to denote a partition, a curtain, or is used generally for the Islamic rules of modesty and dress for both males and females.
Hijab is not only about covering the head, but it's actually covering the whole body, from top to bottom, so that our curves cannot be seen and we don't attract a non-mahram.
Hijab is also called differently as 'Abaya' or 'Burkha'.
The headscarf that is wore by Muslim women is called khimar.
Now we'll have a question,
What does males have to do anything with 'hijab'?
Let me tell you, in Islam Hijab is not compulsory for only women. It's for men as well.
For men- "Say to the believing men that: they should cast down their glances and guard their private parts (by being chaste). This is better for them."
[Quran: Surah Noor]Thus, men must cover from their belly buttons to their knees and thus cover their gait, garments, and genitalia along with lowering their gaze.
For women-"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands their fathers their husbands' fathers their sons their husbands' sons their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or the slaves whom their right hands possess or male servants free of physical needs or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah that ye may attain Bliss"
[Quran: Surah Noor]
But it's a shame that people think that women in Islam are oppressed and restricted from many things as such.
They are not aware that
Women in Islam are like a pearl protected in a shell. Just like a pearl needs to be protected, women under a 'Burkha' are also protected. They feel safe.
In fact they are!Tell me, do you like to keep your precious belongings like ornaments or jewelleries in public?
Heck! We don't even keep mobile without a lock these days!
We are that protective about our belongings.
The difference is,
While You call it a restriction, We call it the protection! This proves that women in Islam are most independent, because you see only what they allow you to see. You have no other right to see any of her body parts unless she wishes!
But I don't think that even in this era, anyone is interested in genuinely knowing what is the actual significance of a 'Hijab' for Muslims.
Because you see, Muslims are always jugded and laughed upon for wearing it.
Isn't it funny, that in Christians, a Nun wearing a headdress is reasoned as a 'religious habit'.
But a Muslimah wearing a hijab is claimed to be a religious restriction!
Tell me about hypocrisy!
Well, not only this but have you ever pondered upon the fact that these days most of the women try to cover there face for reasons such as to prevent themselves from scorching heat of the sun, the dust so that their make up doesn't get ruined!
And let me tell you, that some girls cover their faces because they want to save themselves from disgusting stares of men.
It's a shame that if a Muslim woman is wearing a Niqab, then it is always related with the issues of oppression and restrictions and what not!
I mean come on guys, think about it. Isn't it good for us that we are saving ourselves from all these evil people and global warming too?
Allah Himself has asked us to protect ourselves from evil. To avoid ourselves from attraction of non-mahrams!
Boys, would you like if someone would stare at your mothers, sisters or wives with lustful gaze?
Won't you get jealoused if your own friends would stare at your beloved, if she's wearing revealing clothes?
I guess every man is possessive about his wife and lovers!
The true beauty lies in the eyes of beholder and we shouldn't Love someone on the basis of how good looking they are. That would be Lust.
While you'll find true love if you'll love someone by looking how beautiful his/her heart is.
And that's the beauty of Islam, which also teaches us to love someone for the sake of Allah, by looking at their hearts.
