Titus x depressed reader

It was a quiet night at the Leam Empire; a few lights were lit but it wasn't enough to overcome the darkness of the night. Everyone is currently asleep except for the new Magi who seems to be restless.

Titus's blond locks fell unto his distraught face as he recalled seeing a single black Rukh flying a while ago as he strolled around the corridors.

Despite how dark it was, he didn't miss the chance to see the black bird. He can't simply spare any moment knowing that there's a person suffering; a Magi like him couldn't possibly dismiss the idea of a magician despairing at any moment in his empire.

Footsteps resonated through the corridors as the blond Magi made his way into his room in order to check on the two most important people in his life.

He felt his gut churn as he held unto the knob, contemplating if he should turn it or not. His brows furrowed as he turned it and slowly entered.

The door creaked open as he looked inside. A small figure was currently asleep on the bed. He knew right away that it was his adopted daughter, Marga, judging from the long brown locks that lay on the pillow. Carefully sitting down, he smiled genuinely and patted her head, seeing that she was alright and sleeping peacefully.

A moment of delight was then replaced by fear and discomfort as his eyes were washed with worry since he couldn't find his lover.

Just then, strong wind gushed from the balcony along with a black Rukh that flew past him. His heart pounded strongly as he approached the curtains in which the it came from.

In each step he took, his body felt heavier and heavier. Pushing away the curtains to the side, his eyes went wide. There stood his lover surrounded by the black birds as she held herself in a tight embrace, head lowered and grasping her arms.

She turned her head slowly, her bangs still covering her eyes. She opened her mouth and spoke in a soft quivering voice.

"T-titus...?"

His chest felt tight seeing her in this state. He quickly embraced her and held her as if she would break anytime.

(Y/n) always smiled beside him, never getting mad if he did something wrong and never losing hope in him. He couldn't imagine that she out of all the people in Reim would be the one corrupted. Seeing her this way makes him feel broken in the inside. Exactly what made her this way?

He stroke her hair softly and said,

"Shh... It's alright... I'm here for you... What's wrong, my dear?"

She didn't look up or hug back. She just held herself tightly and shook continuously. Although he couldn't see her face, he knew that she was crying. More black Rukh surrounded her as time passed.

"T-titus... I'm sorry..."

"what do you mea-"

"I know that I'm a failure. I know that I'm not enough... I never deserved to be by your side. I never deserved to be happy... I know that I'm useless... I've been trying so hard to make things right but all these thoughts keep coming to me...! I'm so tired of thinking and feeling. I feel so envious of everyone being so happy while I'm trapped in my own loneliness and grief. My thoughts cage me and I can't seem to be free no matter how hard I try! Why did I end up this way?!... I just want to rest for once and stop thinking. "

His heart ached at every word she said. He never knew that she kept all of these feelings bottled up. She always seemed fine in the outside. For the first time, he realized that he knew nothing about her.

Furthermore, ever since Scheherazade died, he had been so busy most of the time to ever have time for her and Marga despite them being always at his side. The responsibility of being a Magi of this empire was too new and heavy for him that he doesn't know how to balance his personal life with it.

Looking at her, she reminded him of how he was in the past when he felt so hopeless and in despair. Only Mogamett brought him back to light as he embraced him and spoke assuring words.

Arms still around her shivering figure, he looked at her sadly as he slightly pulled away.

"(Y/n), I don't know what has happened in the past few days... Or maybe even in the past years we've been together. I'm sorry if I knew nothing about this."

"No Titus. It's not your fault. It's mi-"

"(Y/n) before you say anything further, please listen to what I have to say. "

"..."

She lowered her head more, feeling guilty. He embraced her once again.

"(Y/n), no matter what you think, I just want you to know that I don't think that you're a failure. I believe in you. You've always been by my side and even during the darkest times, you've always been there. Everytime I see you, my day always becomes brighter. I don't know if I've ever told you but the reason why I want to wake up everyday despite how tired I am is because of you. You make everything better for me. I can't live another day without knowing that you're here with me so please... Don't think that you're worthless because you mean everything to me. "

(Y/n) carefully lifted her head with her tear stained face to look at him.

"(Y/n), I love you. "

The words he spoke were enough to break her from her corruption as one tear fell down her face. The birds around her weren't black anymore; the Rukh became bright and full of hope. Although still painful for her heart, she smiled at him.

"I love you too, Titus. Thank you so much...! "

She then embraced him tightly. He embraced back and kissed her forehead, glad that she was feeling better than before.

She looked up again at him. He smiled at her softly and leaned in to kiss her lips.

"Why don't we go inside and talk more? You can tell me everything that's been keeping you worried and we can try to do something to make things better. I'm sure it would lessen the weight on your shoulders. As your lover, please let me help you."

She looked away as he said this.

"I don't wanna be a burden to you... "

"You won't be a burden. I chose to do this for you."

She looked back at him and nodded. They then went back inside as he had an arm around her waist.
