"Ariana," Coach calls out.
I rush over to his office and see him standing with his clipboard in hand. "Yes?"
"Come on, practice is about to start." He walks past me and heads towards the door leading towards the stadium.
"W-what?"
He turns to me holding the door open. "You're the TA, I think the players should at least know who you are."
"Can't they know me from a distance?"
He smiles, a light chuckle falling from him.
"Ariana," He lets the door close and stares down at me. "This team is a family, and you're apart of it now. I know getting to know people and making new friends can be hard, but this will help you get a head start on it. And trust me, they're not as insane as they seem. Come on." He ushers me out of the room, and into the sunlight, the light autumn breeze doing nothing to help relax me. We walk to the middle of the field, where at least a dozen boys stand talking and warming up. They quiet down at the sight of us.
"Boys, I'd like to introduce you to our new TA Ariana."
All heads turn to me and I feel my cheeks heating up. They greet me with a resounding 'Hi' and I wave back at them. After that, Mr. Henderson goes into coach mode and beings lecturing the boys about their game on Friday. I pick my head up as he talks looking around at the people surrounding me. I go through everyone one of them trying to memorize their faces, I gasp slightly as my gaze lands on Matt who is listening intently, but I ultimately move on to the next one, who just so happens to be staring right at me.
It's the guy from the cafeteria.
His icy blue gaze bores into my own, and for some reason I can't seem to look away. He holds my attention captive as I take him in. His low cheekbones gives his face a more angular look that accentuates his sharp jawline. Right above that, sits a pair of full lips that are situated under a defined cupid's bow. His tongue flicks out and wets his lower lip, somebody get this boy some chapstick. Another boy, who seems to be the captain barks out an order, and all of them begin to run towards one end of the field. Coach turns to me.
"So, Ariana, how much do you know about football?"
I shrug, "The basics I guess,"
"Good, then for today, I just need you to take not of everything that happens. We'll be doing some drills and other exercises and then after practice you're going to help me pick out our starting lineup. Okay?"
I nod, determination suddenly making an appearance in my soul. Practice goes by smoothly, but I have to say watching teenagers throw each other around isn't really my cup of tea. At the end, coach rounds up all the guys and gives them a pep talk, as I sit on the sidelines awaiting his return. I take a look at the roster putting names to faces. I have almost completely memorized the list when a body stops in front of me blocking the sunlight. I look up and see cafeteria-boy. He stares down at me a gentle smile adorning his face.
"Hi," He sighs.
"Hello."
"Um, I'm Foster, the guy who kind of spilled his lunch on you last week, I'm sorry about that by the way."
I smile and shake my head. "Don't worry about it." I was able to get the stain out after all.
A silence lulls over us before he speaks again.
"So... are you coming to the game on Friday?"
I bite back a laugh. "I think it's my job to go."
He chuckles. "Right. Well, we usually have parties after we win and, I think you should come."
"Parties aren't really my thing, but I'll think about it. And how are you so sure that you'll win."
"We're really good," He winks causing the heat to return to my cheeks. Before either one of us can say something else a voice calls out to him.
"Hey Rhodes! Stop flirting with the new girl and get over here."
He looks back at his friends greeting them with a middle finger before turning back to me. He runs a hand through his hair, causing the hem of his shirt to rise. Giving me a peak at the toned body that lays beneath it. I look up back to his face to see his smile. "But, you should think about the party. I think It'd be alot more fun if you were there." The guys start calling him again. "I'd better go."
He walks back over to the group and the head back into the locker room.
