"Wow" Wheein muttered picking up her best friend's phone after reading the notification. "You're a success!"
"I don't even open that app," Byulyi answered, shrugging. "I don't have good memories, I guess?"
Wheein sighed loudly, not believing she had to listen to that again. Even with their busy lives, they managed to meet at least once a week to keep the friendship alive. Byulyi often had to leave the office she worked at earlier for their coffee dates and work late the next day to make up for it, but she didn't care.
"Unnie, how long are you going to whine about Seulgi?!" she stared at her older friend, but Byulyi looked down, pretending to play with her fingers. "It's over. She moved on and you should too. " She smiled, trying to light up the mood. "Besides, it's funny to judge people, c'mon, take your mind of that."
The blonde laughed and unlocked her phone, waiting while the app loaded. Byulyi didn't have the best love history. She liked three or four people before and only confessed to one of them. People were too complicated and being gay made it even worse. Seriously. A few months back she had a short but intense relationship with a girl from Tinder. Kang Seulgi. She was gorgeous, funny and every moment with her was special, but Byulyi was too shy and insecure and at some point, this ruined their relationship. It was just not meant to be. Things didn't end in a horrible way, but she was not sure she was ready to be in another relationship so soon.
"Oh, she's nice," Wheein said, looking at a profile. The girl had white hair and some photos with her small dog - Byul wasn't sure but looked like a French bulldog -. She was very cute, but not Byulyi's type. The younger looked up for some reaction but seeing Byulyi shrugging, she sighed and swiped to the left, what made the word 'nope' appear like a stamp on the girl's picture.
The next one was gorgeous. She kind of looked like a model, super confident and all of the photos in her profile looked like taken by professionals. Wheein smiled to herself, pleased with it and gave her a like by swiping to the right.
"Hey, I didn't approve it!" Byulyi complained loudly, grabbing Wheein's arm to make the younger girl look at her.
"What is there to not approve, unnie?" she rolled her eyes. "She's beautiful."
"Maybe she's not my type?" Byulyi raised an eyebrow.
"Please, she's everybody's type" Wheein chuckled, dismissing her options.
It didn't take long for her to realize Wheein wasn't really worried about her opinion on any of those girls. Byulyi enjoyed reading the profiles and trying to guess how those people were like, even though the point of the app was to be a human's menu. All of her efforts were now in the trash. She crossed her arms, annoyed, looking around. The coffee shop was weirdly empty since it was past the time everyone got off work and she decided to order another coffee before things got crazy. She waved to the brunette waitress with an incredible long hair put into a ponytail under the black cap that was part of their uniform, she smiled brightly taking a small notebook and a pen from her apron's pocket.
"How can I help you?" she asked with a happy tone.
"I would like another cappuccino, please?"
The girl smiled again, nodding and writing down the order before leaving.
"Oh my god...oh, wow." Wheein's surprised tone got Byulyi's attention and she watched as the young girl brought the phone closer to her face seeing the next girl. Byulyi could read 'Hyejin, 23', noticing that wasn't much on her profile besides a lot of photos that Wheein was looking at carefully.
"She's a baby." Byulyi pointed out. She had to admit the girl was gorgeous, but the age difference didn't please her.
"Well, not for me." Wheein shrugged and that confirmed Byulyi's suspicions.
"Oh, excuse me, I assumed we were looking for a girlfriend for me. But, sure, use my profile to choose someone for yourself", she chuckled.
"Thanks" Wheein answered, clearly not noticing the irony in the older girl's tone.
She smiled seeing Hyejin's Instagram was available, opening to check it out and saving the user in her own phone. Then, she declined the girl on Byulyi's phone, just to be safe.
"What was that?" the older asked, laughing.
"I can't risk, you're too charming" she shrugged.
Byulyi rolled her eyes, not believing her. Wheein continued to go through profiles, judging what was best for her unnie without even asking. The blonde just watched it, having nothing else to do since Wheein had her phone.
"Hey, what about this one?" she picked up the phone, showing to Byulyi.
'Yongsun, 27'. She had brown hair and eyes, a cute mole above her right eye and the brightest smile Byulyi had ever seen. She straightened herself in the chair, coming closer. The girl was very very cute and Byul felt like squishing her cheeks. She slid calmly, looking at the other pics where the girl was mostly making funny faces or not looking at the camera. The app said she was less than a mile away and Byulyi bit her bottom lip. Her description wasn't so nice, tho. She sounded kind of cocky.
"She's cute," Wheein said, hoping to see any reaction or answer.
"I don't know. She seems kind of... snob? I mean, look at this description." Byul huffed, leaning back in her chair again. "And she likes hip hop."
"And what's wrong with that?" Wheein lifted one eyebrow, confused.
"Yeah, what's wrong with that?" the other girl's voice right behind them startled Byul and she turned around to the see the waitress back with her order in hand. She didn't have her black cap on anymore and Byulyi could clearly see her face now. The small and golden name tag attached to her black apron got Byulyi's attention and she cursed under her breath reading it. Yongsun.
"I-I'm... I mean, nothing." she could feel her cheeks and ears turning red and looked at her lap, trying to think of something to say and fix that situation. Sadly, her brain wasn't fast enough because of how ashamed she was.
"Your profile isn't clear either, you know, but I thought I could give you a chance." She smiled unbothered by the situation, making Byulyi blush even more.
"I'm sorry, I really am." she apologized.
The brunette seemed to have fun seeing Byulyi in such a delicate position.
"Don't be. Go out with me, so I can prove you wrong." she proposed in a flirty way, raising her eyebrow.
Her heart was racing and Byulyi didn't know what to do. She looked at Wheein, in a silent cry for help. The younger one shrugged as if she saying she couldn't do anything to help. It surely wasn't on her plans to have a date by the end of the evening.
"Yeah... Hm, I mean, we can do that, I guess." she agreed, not really knowing why.
Yongsun leaned in, putting the drink in the table in front of the blonde girl, still smiling and then walked away.
"Oh my god," Byulyi groaned, covering her face with her hands, not believing what just happened to her. She stayed like that for a few long seconds, trying to recompose herself. When she finally put her hands down, Wheein laughed, staring at her.
"I don't think that's how you Tinder, but... it worked." Wheein shrugged.
She sighed, looking at the phone in the table beside her new cappuccino. Her hand hesitantly hovered above the phone considering her options. The worst had already happened, so she took a deep breath and swiped Yongsun's pic to right.
It's a match! The app proudly announced, showing their pics together. Yeah, maybe not, she thought to herself.
