NightWing telepathy is a rare occurrence in the tribe, as the dragonet with the powers must be born under either 1 full moon (50% chance of getting it) or two full moons (100% chance of getting it)

Most Nightwings at a young age, learn basic skills to keeping themselves sane.

Basic skills include,

Shielding:- The process of blocking ones thoughts as to that no one can read you.
Shielding is typically done in different ways for different dragons. Most imagine a STONE OR BRICK WALL and PUSH IT OVER THEIR THOUGHTS.

Muffling:- Muffling, or as commonly known by most dragons, tuning out.
Tuning out is one of the first skills NightWings need to learn, as if they don't learn it, they can lose their sanity.
Tuning out can be created by many things, but most of the time, A loud and repetitive noise that is also calming can help.

Some advanced skills, which can take years to learn, include:-

Control :-
This NightWing power, as only seen once by ShadowHunter, is a very dangerous and also very unethical practice.

This is a very dangerous skill, which takes years of practice. Some believe that it is also genetic, and it takes a certain mind to be able to do it. 

The acts of how to complete such an action, are unknown, as MindRipper was not a very powerful dragon, aside from his ability to control others.
This, lead to his untimely death, as he was assassinated in his sleep.

The control can be broken with sleep deprivation and also lack of mental awareness.

Controlling dragons is as rumored, very exhausting, and thus, should not be done due to the ethical concept, as also it can put you into a near death state.

  Mental Probing :-

This practice of peering deep into someone's mind is a rather grueling and painful way of getting information.

This is a basic form of Control, but with limitations.

Methods of doing this are mostly vague and cryptic, as most telepaths read just the surface of others minds, and most of the time cannot see what they want to see unless the target is thinking about it.
In order to do this, you must imagine the mind of the other as penetrable, and then "dig" in to find what you are after.
The target may experience headaches, normally a sharp stabbing pain near the back of the head, and also a crawling feeling on the back of their neck.

Blackout :-
This is the process of removing another telepaths contact with others minds and also their foresight abilities.
This can be used to make a telepath unaware of someone's thoughts, or their visions. However, not just any telepath can do this, as it takes years of practicing shielding techniques, but also learning the ability to project this into someone's head.

Sounds dangerous. Gotta look out for this. -

Dragons who are under the blackout usually hear a slight buzzing noise, as if they are holding sky fire, along with the inability to read minds.

This cannot be broken away from, unless you hold sky fire (this just breaks the connection) or manage to get out of range of the broadcaster. Some animus touched objects can block specifically the broadcaster, thus ending the connection.
