"Every year we go to this game Valorie! It's tradition!" Emily persuaded.
Every year the rival high schools, Wester High and Crimston High, play each other last in the playoffs for football and every year we went. But today of all days I am feeling a little nauseous.
"Emily, you know I don't feel too good. Can't we just miss this one game? It's not like it would be the end of the world." I said trying to beg for her approval.
"No. I don't care if your in a hospital bed I will still drag you out to that field. We still have to preform!" Emily knew she had the high grounds on this argument. We've worked so hard on the dance for this game. I couldn't let all my girls down. After all I was their captain.
"Fine," I said throwing my arms up in defeat, "I can't let you girls down. What would y'all do without me?" I laughed and she rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, yeah. Let's go hot shot. I'm going tell Braden you were gonna miss his game if it wasn't for me." I laughed while we got into her Jeep.
"Is Liam coming today?" I asked her hoping he would be there. Emily was always in a better mood when he was around. They've been dating for six months now. Not as long as Braden and I though, we've been together for a year now. It's been a little rocky but the love is strong with us.
"Yes! I asked him yesterday and he said he would be there to cheer me on." Emily beamed. Liam decided to get off the football team just so he could support Emily more when she danced. I think it's the cutest thing ever. I almost envy their relationship.
"Fun! Just remember the moves don't let him flood your memory!" I warned her. At the last football game Emily kept making goo goo eyes at Liam and she completely forgot the whole dance. She was warned by our coach that if she messed up one more time she was off the team.
"I know. I know!" Emily hated talking about it. She said it was so embarrassing because everyone was looking right at her. I guess that's why I'm glad Braden doesn't leave the football team for me. I do not want any distractions in the stands. After a few minutes of silence Emily turns up the radio and we jam out all the way to the football field.
——
We pulled into the school parking lot. It was a home game so Crimston High was coming here to Wester. The Crimston bus ,for their football team, was already here. As a matter of fact they were getting off the bus.
Emily and I walked past the group of football players. I swear, it smelled like they had a apple pie with them.
"Do you smell that? It smells like an apple pie. I can't believe they are already celebrating before they've even played yet." I said very annoyed. I hated that school. I mostly just hated people that went there. I know that a few of the students from there are apart of the Lee pack.
"Smell what?" Emily asked confused. I looked at her then realized we were too far to try and point the smell out again. It was gone.
"Never mind." Emily shrugged and we walked into the girls changing room where the rest of our dance team was. We changed and all headed to the track around the field. People were starting to pour in. Especially the security guards.
Every year something broke out at this particular game. No one else understood why. This game is basically the Miles pack against the Lee pack. Both Alphas would come and watch and most of the pact from each side too. I always kept my cool at this game. I always knew when it would be time to act on revenge.
"Earth to Valorie. Earth to Valorie." Emily was waving her hand in my face. I looked her and smiled innocently.
"Time to get in position. The games about to start." I looked at my phone. It was time. I looked into the stands of our teams side. There was my father. Acting like he had no care in the world. I turned around and looked into the stands of my enemy. There he was. My mother's killer. I snarled and Emily put her hand over my mouth.
"Focus." She whispered into my ear. I nodded and shrugged everything off.
We headed to the center of the field and got into our positions. The music started and we danced. Emily remembered the dance and everyone was on cue. Once the music stopped we cheered and headed off the field. I grabbed my bag and pulled my phone out. My phone beeped from a new nonfiction. A number I didn't know appear on my screen along with a message.
Watch your back Valorie
I looked around. I looked at people in the stands trying to find someone suspicious. There was no one. Everyone was watching the game. I put my phone back in my bag. I didn't want to tell Emily because then she would tell my father.
Emily and I both went into the stands and joined Liam. We sat and watch the game and I completely ignored the message.
——
Everyone was cheering. Wester beat Crimston by a touchdown. Emily and I were doing our own made up dances to celebrate. We had Liam dying from laughter.
"Aren't y'all suppose to know how to dance?" He said laughing. Emily scowled him and hit him playfully on the arm. He threw his hands up still laughing.
We left the stand and Emily and I were headed to her Jeep.
"Wait! I wanna go give Liam a kiss. I'll be right back." Before I could complain about waiting for her she was gone. It was late. I could barely find her dark Jeep at this time of night.
I went to open the door.
"Dang it." Emily had the keys so now I'm stuck out here waiting for her. I pulled my phone out and saw that I had another message from that same number. It came through two minutes ago.
Turn around
Who ever this was, they were persistent. I sniffed the air. Someone was definitely near. Just as I realized it was too late, a hand came over my mouth and I was being dragged toward another car. I kicked and hit at who ever it was. All I could tell was that it was a werewolf and a guy.
I ran through my opinions. I could let this man take me to where he was gonna take me and let him do whatever he wanted to do with me or I could find a way to get out and fight.
I decided fighting was probably my best bet, not knowing what the other outcome could conclude.
I bite his hand and he yelled in pain. He loosened his grip and I pulled away from him. I turned around to face him. He was from the Lee pack. I growled knowing the danger.
"What do you want!" I yelled trying to cause attention in the darkness.
"What do I want? I want you dead!" He yelled making me shiver. I knew it was nothing personal at this point. This was just about our bloody rivalry.
I threw the first punch hitting him square in the jaw, making him falter. Right after another I kept laying punches into him until he fell. As soon as he was on the ground I got on top of him holding him down until help arrived.
"You should know to never mess with me." I said leaning down to whisper in his ear.
He laughed and got his right hand out from my grip. He punched me in the face then pushed me off of him. Then he was the one to get on top of me.
"I prefer being on top." He whispered to me now. He trapped both of my hands in only one of his. I couldn't budge. He took his other hand and traced it down my chest to the bottom of my stomach. He looked down at his hand and back up at me.
"I've always wanted to know how it would be to do you." He said as his hand went lower and lower.
Then out of no where someone else barreled into the side of him, tackling him down. I hurried to get up. I pushed myself against a car and watched as this new dude beat the other one to a pulp.
"W-What are you doing man! Stop it! Stop!" The first guy pleaded. It almost felt as if they knew each other.
The new dude said nothing, not a single word.
"James! What the hell man! Get off of me!" They did know each other! And who was this so called James?
Finally James said something to the other guy.
"Leave! Go to the house!" He got off the dude and that guy ran so fast out of there.
James watched him run off then turned and walked over to me.
It was the same apple pie smell from before. He looked at me. He sized me up too.
"Excuse me? Eyes up here man." He similes and laughed.
"Sorry."
I looked at him. He was pretty cute. He had to be older than me. I've never seen him around either.
"Who are you?" I asked unsure of where he came from.
"Oh yeah. Sorry." He raised his hand out from me to shake. "The names James," I took his hand and shook it, "James Lee."
My eyes grew wide and I pulled my hand from his. There's no way this could be the James Lee. My rival James Lee.
He looked puzzled.
"Is everything ok?" He asked startled.
I shook my head. Would he kill me if he knew who I was? Maybe I should go along with it.
"No it's nothing," I said brushing it off, "Valorie.... Mills."
He raised his eyebrow at me.
"Valorie Mills?" I nodded. "Well then Valorie Mills, may I have your phone number?" He had a big puppy dog look on his face and somehow I couldn't say no. I handed him my phone number and walked toward a crowd of people to get away.
I had to find Emily.
