Steven has never once doubted Pearl, at least not until now. Garnet's rage fell on deaf ears as Steven's image of Pearl began to crumble. Deep inside, Steven hoped that Pearl had a good reason for tricking Garnet into fusing with her.
"I just wanted to share a few victories with you!"
His hopes were shattered. His image of a perfect family was broken, not even an episode of Crying Breakfast Friends could make him forget the betrayal. Steven walked away from the dispute; which was unnoticed to the Gems.
After Garnet was calmed down, for the time being, they returned home. Steven left the home, but he wasn't questioned since the others were in a somber mood. He breathed in the fresh ocean air to calm himself down, but instead the air was suffocating. His thoughts were clashing with each other.
This isn't a big deal! Everyone wants a chance to get stronger!
And does that justify the fact that Pearl literally tricked not just Garnet but all of us into thinking that one of the Diamond's lackeys came to Earth so that she could fuse into Sardonyx?
She didn't want to feel worthless! Besides, the first time was genuine, so one of the Diamond's underlings is on Earth! If anything, she is helping us!
In what way did she help us? By destroying the trust we've had so the Diamonds can exploit it? She didn't help us; she helped the Diamonds. She might as well be one of those servants that the they use for their benefit.
At first, it wasn't serious. It was just a phase. However, his thoughts weren't aware of the lingering evil in his head.
