Chapter 22
Silence, nothing but the strangest, strongest and most intimidating silence of my life surrounded me. Harrison then made a ludicrous giggling noise, shoved the lamp in the air triumphantly, and smirked at me.
"I cannot abide by your wish." Jene's deep voice filled the silence and Harrison abruptly stopped moving.
"Why not?" Harrison crossed his arms appearing beyond childish.
"You have gone against the rules that you agreed to uphold." Jene clicked his fingers and the lamp flew across to his awaiting hands.
I watched all of this with a detached relief. The lamp went from its angry red back into its golden shine, obviously pleased to be away from Harrison. I didn't blame the lamp, I'd want to get away from him too.
"Give that back! I didn't break your stupid rules. I didn't say you had to kill her. All I said was to destroy everything she knows and loves." Harrison started to babble.
"What are the rules, petty human? I only have two so it cannot be that hard to recall." Jene asked in a booming voice.
"Don't wish to kill, and don't wish to harm some genie thing. I didn't do either of those things so give the lamp back." Harrison now turned to whining.
"You wished to destroy everything my Genie-Us held dear. You wished to destroy her world. How is that not trying to harm my Genie-Us? You went against the rules, therefore, you no longer have charge of my lamp." Jene's powerful voice reverberated around the room.
It was the first time that I took stock of everything. Harrison had broken the rules without even realising. He wouldn't have known what a Genie-Us was, let alone that I was Jene's. In breaking the rules, I didn't have to steal his lamp. Harrison had given up his lamp to be as spiteful as what he could be to me. What an idiot!
"No, you dumb genie, I wished you to destroy Isla's life, not some random genie thing." Harrison grew agitated as he held his hand out for the lamp that would never return to him.
"My Genie-Us." Jene pointed to me. I've never seen a funnier sight than the way Harrison's mouth flopped open in disbelief.
"She's human like me. There's no way that she's got anything to do with genie stuff." Harrison kept up his argument, but it wouldn't do him any good.
"My Genie-Us. You wished against her and broke the rules." Jene remained so calm, and I could see his certainty bothered Harrison.
"You set me up!" Harrison came straight to me with accusing eyes and tightly fisted hands.
"I didn't know you'd be here, dimwit. This is my friend Tammy Lee's party." I pointed out the obvious.
"But you have to know him. He said you're his genie thing, so you have to know him." Harrison tried to piece everything together in his mind, and it managed to baffle him.
"I do know Jene. Thanks for introducing me to the man of my dreams." I gave Harrison a cheeky wink.
"You conniving..." Harrison trailed off and stared at me with a menacing glare.
I wasn't quite ready for the way Harrison came at me fists flying a moment later. With the emotional turmoil of the night surrounding me, my powers were already close to the surface. Seeing a manic moron flailing his limbs towards me exploded my powers to life.
Harrison's fist should've landed on my jaw, but he met an impenetrable barrier only inches from my face. A girlish scream flew out of his mouth, he pulled his hand away and clutched it against him.
