Jonny’s POV

I just don’t get it. How? How does anything point at me? After all, I wasn’t even near enough to him to pull him away from the approaching car. There’s no way in the world I was driving that thing. And they say it’s my car? I don’t know what kind of twisted logic they used to reach that conclusion. But there’s nothing I can do now. I’m in the frame, and the only one who can get me out of it is fighting for life. And now I’m stuck, locked away like a criminal. I’m gonna go down for this, if Chris doesn’t wake up. I’ll be paying for his murder, a murder I didn’t commit. I’ll lose my best friend, something I can’t replace. The love I have for him will have gone to waste. It couldn’t be worse than that.

I don’t get it. The confusion never stops. Why Jonny? Why is he the one being accused? I mean, he tried to warn me before it happened. He wasn’t even close to me. I’m pulling the puzzles apart in my head, trying to work out how anyone could possibly suspect him of anything. I, for one, would never suspect anyone with such puppy dog eyes. I mean he just looks so sweet, how could you? Someone’s coming. Please let it be Jonny. Please, I need my lovely Jon here with me.

“Oh for fuck’s sake.” Will. The first time since this started that he’s threatened to lose his temper. What’s he mad about?

“Staying positive, are we?” Guy teased.

“Oh, shut up, Guy. Get that grin off your face.”

“I just thought you needed cheering up.”

“Well, fun’s over. Listen. Jonny’s being charged tomorrow.” No way. My heart sank, as if to be swallowed in the sea.

“You are joking, right?” Guy asked.

“Do I look like I’m joking, Guy?” Well… I can’t comment on that. Probably not. “We have to do something.”

“We can’t. They won’t listen to us. The only other person who knows what happened is Chris.”

“I suppose… I just feel we’re letting him down if we don’t even try.”

Guy’s tone softened a little.

“Did you find anything out about Chris?”

“They say there’s no change.” No better and no worse. “To be honest I wasn’t expecting anything.” One of them stood up.

“I’m er… going to the Bakery.”

“Guy! That’s not important right now.”

“I really have to go. I’ll be back real quick. See you soon.” I didn’t understand. What’s he doing running off to the Bakery? Will’s right, finishing off Ghost Stories isn’t important now. Will’s gone quiet. He never moves. All that time, he was silent still.
