Chapter One: Escape

Sam's P.O.V

I stood in my mother's prom dress. The pink silk fell around me in a small puddle of perfection. I looked just like her when she was my age. The mirror that held my reflection had been cracked in different directions, but still had an image. I looked at the floor that had red blood stains all over it. The blood that had come from me. I had been thrown, punched, kicked and any type of attack you can think of, I have probably had that happen in this very room. My eyes jolted back to my helpless reflection. My green eyes that had no sparkle in them, my brown hair that fell down in tangles to my lower back, and my black and blue marks that were painted all over my body. The sound that I dreaded most had rang through this house, the car door slamming. I quickly unzipped the dress and took it off as fast as I could. I carefully placed it under my bed, making sure it didn't pull on anything and ruin its delicate handcrafted frame. I heard footsteps coming up the stairs, each one growing louder and angrier. Next thing I know, my door had flung open and slammed against the wall with a thud. Fear had flooded over me so quickly, I couldn't tell if I was breathing anymore.

"Amanda is coming over so clean the kitchen and the living room." My father demanded. The only emotion he ever had was anger. I couldn't even remember the last time he spoke to me like I was his daughter, let alone a person. I nodded in agreement and left before anything had happened.

I walked into the kitchen. It smelled like beer and cigarettes. I picked up all the beer bottles and tossed them into the garbage. Next, I took the cigarettes out of the sink and placed them in there as well. Finally, I had to clean the dishes. There were only a few because I was barely fed. The only time I was fed was if my dad's boss came over for dinner and that's when my dad fakes his love for me just so he can get a raise. While wiping off the counters, I sang a song that I had heard a few times, but could never remember the name of.

"You'll never love yourself as half as much as I love you. You'll never treat yourself right darling but I want you to. If I let you know, I'm here for you, maybe you'll love yourself like I love you."

The words have rolled off my tongue as if I wrote the song. I sang softly so my father wouldn't think I was messing around while I was supposed to be doing house work. Sadly, he did hear me.

"You sing like absolute shit." He laughed in my face. These insults weren't new of course, but I am really getting tired of living like I am not a human.

"Well, you look like shit." I shot back, I realized that I had actually said that aloud. I have never spoken back to him, because I didn't want to be hit more than I already am.

"What did you say to me, bitch?" He yelled. His voice felt like it had shaken the whole house. I always feared him more than anything else in this terrible world.

Before I had time to say anything, he had taken a plate off of the drying rack and had thrown it at me with all of the force he had. The shards of glass had landed throughout my body and little rivers of blood had trailed down as a result. Before it got worse, I started to run. Luckily the front door was easy and fast to get to from the kitchen. I had my phone, which was cracked from me being thrown down while it was in my pocket. The only reason I have a phone is because my dad's boss got me it for my birthday this year.

It was raining and my father was chasing after me. I never thought that I could run this fast. I became out of breath right as I reached a small park that I used to use as an escape as a young teen. I hid in a bush about five minutes before I had saw my father show up. He looked everywhere for me and then continued running.

I waited at least an hour before traveling to the next destination, a small local Starbucks that doesn't get much attention around here. I ran in and hit into a tall brunette.

"I am so sorry." I said quickly. "Please don't hit me." I followed my apology up with.

"Why would I hit you?" He had longish hair and an accent. I felt as if I knew him but I couldn't place the name or how.

"Sorry. just a saying out of habit." I smiled shyly. I saw his eyes glance down my arm.

"Oh my God, are you okay? Here come with me!" He led me to a car. This is when I started crying.

"Please don't hurt me! I'm sorry I hit into you! I'll do anything just don't hurt me!" I pleaded.

"Seriously, I promise that I'm not going to hurt you. Please just let me help you. What's your name?"

I hesitated. Should I trust him? I mean it's just a name. "Samantha Green" I said quietly.

He held out his hand. "Please to meet you Samantha, I am Louis Tomlinson."
