I was up to my knees in legos. Cleaning my son's room is disgusting. "I'm home!" I hear. I run down the stairs.
My husband Blake sets down his briefcase, and then hugs me.
"I have big news." He tells me.
"Should we call the kids up?" I ask.
He shrugs. "I don't care."
I go to the basement door, and yell down. "Sophia! Tommy! Come up!" They both run up the stairs.
"Daddy's got some big news." I say.
"What? He got new shaving cream? That old fart never has something interesting with him." Tommy mumbles on his video game.
I take the video game from him. Blake lifts Tommy in the air like he's a airplane. Tommy laughs.
"No. I got a new job."
He announces once he puts Tommy down. We all clap.
"It's 4 hours from here." We stop clapping. "It's a really good job. I swear! I get twice as much money that I got at this job." He continues.
"But what about us? You'll barely see us!" Sophia cries.
"Sophia, we got to respect your Dad and his wishes." I tell her.
"That's right. My first day is tomorrow, so I have to leave today to make a good first impression." He finishes.
"It's a great opportunity Blake. I think you should do it." I say.
Tommy nods his head in agreement. Sophia looks at me. Then at Tommy. Then back at me. "Whatever." She whispers, then runs up to her room and slams the door.
"She's mad." Blake points out. "Obviously." I reply. "I'm going to pack." Blake told me. I nod my head, and he walks away. My dog Buddy started to whine. I sigh, and grab the leash. Blake was in the office. What is he doing? Shouldn't he be packing?
"Yeah. I'll be there tonight Lilly. Trust me! Trust me!" I eavesdrop.
"Who's Lilly?" I ask when I open the door. Blake quickly hangs up with "Lilly" and the turns to me and says,
"Lilly is my um... sister!" He exclaims.
"You're sister? You're sister's name is Karen." I argue.
"I call my sister Lilly because Lilly is short for Waterlilly. You know. The flower." He replies.
"I thought you were moving into your new building tonight." I fight.
" I am, but Karen is meeting me there to help move into my room. In my building."
"I thought she was "Lilly" because isn't short for Waterlilly. The flower." I repeated.
"I call her both. Please believe me." Blake pleads. I sigh again.
"Fine. Have fun." I close the door to the office. I hook the leash to Buddy, and bring him outside. This thought kept repeating inside my head over and over again. Is Blake hiding something?
