Avalon^^
I sigh and tilt my head slightly to the left as I stare at the signup sheets lining the bulletin board on the wall outside of the office. There were so many clubs for such a small school. Chess club, model UN, photography club, but what really caught my eye was the drama club poster.
It had the stereotypical happy/sad masks and glitter. They were doing a production of the musical Into the Woods.
Interesting. I think to myself.
"Are you looking to sign up for the school musical? I'm personally going to tryout for the role of Cinderella." I hear a girls voice behind me say.
I turn around to see a tall, dark haired, tanned girl who had pretty gray eyes. Her long, raven hair was drawn back from her face in a high ponytail. She was also wearing a charcoal tee with a gold star and a man standing on top of the star, and ripped, blue skinny jeans. To pair it all off she was wearing black and white checkered Vans.
"Umm I don't know. Maybe I will." I say to the girl. She smiled at me and I noticed she had a little dimple. The girl was really pretty. She looked oddly familiar. "I love your shirt by the way."
The girl's eyes lit up. "Really? You like it? Not a lot of people 'round here appreciate musical theatre." she sighs and rolls her eyes.
"So you're a Hamilton fan I'm guessing?" I question her. She nods vigorously.
"It's my favorite broadway musical." She says. She gives me a funny look. "I'm so sorry I never did catch your name. You're new right? Well of course you're new I would've known who you were if you've been here before. I've been here forever." She rambled.
Wow this girl talks a lot is all I can think as she talks a million miles a minute.
"My name is Harper. I'm from California." I interrupt her as she takes a breath to unleash another torrent of words. Her eyes go as round as saucers.
"Did you live in LA? Did you meet famous people? What was it like?" I start to think maybe I should've just left with my name.
"Avalon, leave the poor girl alone." I hear a familiar male voice. The girl, Avalon, rolls her eyes.
"Whatever Cas." She sighs. Caspian comes up behind her and puts his arm around her shoulders. Oh. This is his girlfriend I think as my heart drops.
I force a smile. "Hi Caspian." I say, trying to hide the disappointment in my voice.
He grins back at me with that beautiful smile. "Hello Harper-Lee." He winks at me and gives me a smug smile. Stop beating so fast! I scold my heart
"I told you not to call me that." I frown at him.
Avalon punches his shoulder. "Yeah bro, leave Harper alone."
Bro?
"Wait, so you guys are siblings?" I raise an eyebrow at them. Avalon nods her head and takes a water bottle out of her bag and starts unscrewing the lid.
"Oh. I thought you were dating or something." Right as I say that Avalon spits her water everywhere.
"That's absolutely disgusting. I'd never ever want to date him." She said wiping her mouth.
"Well you're no peach either, sis." Caspian says swiping water droplets off of his jacket.
"I'm sorry for inducing the spit take." I tell them.
"Don't be sorry. Avalon is a little over dramatic anyways. She's my twin sister." Caspian explains to me.
That's why the girl looked so familiar. Caspian and Avalon had a similar body and face shape. They also shared the same dark hair and dark complexion.
"Oh. I have twin brothers. Hayes and Hanson." I smile at the thought of them. I wonder what they're doing now.
Just as Avalon looked like she was about to answer, the bell for class had rung.
"I didn't realize what time it was. I have to get to class." I say and start to walk away towards the left hallway.
"Wait, what class do you have?" Caspian calls to me.
I check my schedule. "Uh I have Mr. Lambert's calculus class." I say looking at the paper.
"Wow you must be really smart to have that class." Avalon sounded impressed.
"I mean I guess so." I say blushing a little. Ugh. Why am I blushing? I think to myself.
"Well I'm headed there too. See you there." Caspian gave me a mock salute and started walking.
In the exact opposite direction as I was.
"Hey! Wait up!" I yell at him. I jog toward the right hallway and slow to a walk beside him. "Remember I don't really know where I'm going." I say.
He looks down at me and smirks. Why do you have to be so cute? I him ask in my head.
"I know. I just wanted to see if it would get your attention." He laughs. I lightly jab him in the ribs with my elbow. I smile in satisfaction as he rubs his side.
What are you doing? I ask myself. You can't like this boy. It will never work.
I look down at the tiled floor as I keep walking. Not saying another word to Caspian.
