Rose's POV:

Okay......this must be a clue.

I looked up to meet my dad's eyes. He was looking down at the paper with furrowed eyebrows and a deep frown. I guess he was rereading the whole note multiple times. He looked at me with wide eyes. He got up from his seat without another word. My dad picked up the chits and sealed them in a waterproof cover before locking them away in a fireproof safe.

He then sat down next to me. He was triggered by all those creepy lines. There’s a possibility that this could be a serial killer but the forest was guarded by a strong shield invisible human eyes or any other creatures except the supernatural beings. Vampires never dared to enter our land as the moment they step in, they would burn down into ashes. Such was the power of this forest.

The next day, I went to the university as usual. It seemed as though the joyful atmosphere had been lost just as soon as it came by the past week’s events. Edward had called in ill early in the morning and Claire was down worrying about her boyfriend. I told her all about everything that we found in the nail. She listened with wide eyes. There was much more to it we couldn’t put a finger on. I also told her not to spread the news as the enemy might be near us and we couldn’t trust anyone in this mission. Classes were boring as usual and I walked towards the cafeteria when I was pulled into the janitor’s closet abruptly. A heavy scent of honey and musk entered my nostrils making me confused at first. This was my mate! Adrenaline rushed through my veins in excitement and my wolf howled in happiness. I prepared myself to see the face of my mate. I was pulled into a hard chest and a hand was over my mouth to keep me from screaming. As we entered the closet, the door was locked behind me and I was slammed into the wall. Lately, I’ve been slammed into the wall too many times, I noticed. I’ve to still get used to it.

To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Jacob stood there just as confused. “Mate” he growled or rather his wolf growled. My wolf whimpered at his dominance. He stared right through my soul so strongly when he suddenly mumbled something inaudible. “ The Moon Goddess sure likes to play games”, he said a bit louder this time. I was still staring at him surprised.

He spoke up once again, “Don’t think anything changes just because you are mate. This whole thing was a mistake. Rivals aren’t meant to be mates or love each other. Heck, I can’t even imagine my future with you!” he spat. Oh God! How I wanted to break his teeth! I was snapping his neck in my head at that moment. He then glanced at me. “What? Cat got your tongue?” he smirked. At this point, I was losing my patience. I still stared at him gritting my teeth in anger. “Hey! I know I’m hot.....I mean girls just drop their panties at the sight of me. But you have been staring at me for ........woah......10 whole minutes. Am I really that mesmerising?” he smirked again.

This is the limit! I punched him square on the jaw making him stumble back. Why did he have to be such a jerk all the damn time?!
“Listen prick! I’m done with your bullshit. I ain’t insulting myself anymore by becoming your mate. My Pack’s pride is what I care about the most. So on this day, I , Rose Evangeline Jones, daughter of the alpha of the Moonflowers pack reject you, Jacob Clayton of the Red Flares pack as my mate”. My sudden outburst must have left him in shock because his whole body froze an she stared at me with eyes and mouth open wide. I opened the door and marched out without another word. I went to my next class 5 minutes late, thanks to that asshole. Mrs. Black was teaching molecular basis of inheritance as I barged into the classroom.

“Care to explain why you are so late to the class Ms Jones?” she asked adjusting her round black glasses. “I was caught up in the hallway with some work. I’m sorry ma’am. I’ll not repeat it again”, I replied. She gestured me to take my seat as she continued to teach. Ten minutes later, the door again slammed against the wall showing Jacob with bloody fists. Mrs Black turned towards him  and “Care to explain why you are fifteen minutes late to my class Mr. Clayton?” she asked. “ I’m afraid it’s nothing of your concern” was all he said as he took his seat not before throwing a glare in my side. Yay! I pissed him off. Mrs Black rolled her eyes and continued to teach.

Claire looked at me confused and I mouthed, “ I’ll explain later”. She nodded her and switched her concentration on the lecture.

10 minutes ago, Jacob’s POV:

I marched out of the janitor’s closet in anger. I honestly didn’t expect Rose to reject me. I actually felt bad for her for a split second on listening to her outburst but that pity vanished as soon as it came. I’m an alpha . I should be strong and never let my guard down. I can’t go soft on anyone let alone my ruthless rival from time immemorial. But the thought that she rejected me mad men angry. I, the most popular alpha among all the 4 packs in this forest was rejected by his mate. Oh god! How humiliating is that?! My wolf was very angry with me. He kept cursing at me and blamed me for everything. It was so annoying.  "Shut up, will ya!" I shouted. "Sure!", he shouted back and blocked me......he freaking blocked me!!

I made my way towards my class trying to maintain a safe distance behind Rose so that we don’t enter the classroom at the same time. As I was walking, I heard faint chanting from one end of the corridor. I followed the sound to one of the abandoned classrooms of our campus. There on one end of the classroom on a wooden bench I could make out the back of a boy wearing a black hoodie looking out of the window uttering few Latin words which I couldn’t understand. Well, only if I actually paid attention in Latin class instead of fooling around with the bitches. He then turned sideways.

I wasn't prepared for what I saw next. Lucas stood there with blood on his hands ! He looked ....... different, a bad kind of different. He looked scary and creepy. I took slow steps towards him with a vase in my hand in case he attacked me. Lucas turned completely and stared right through my soul. His eyes were bright red and his smile..
..oh god! It sent chills down my spine......there was something different in his behaviour I couldn’t quite lay a finger upon... Like he was possessed by some other being. But ghosts don’t exist right?...

Within a flash of a second he stood before me making me stumble back a little. “ The prophecy was true all long. Be prepared!” he hissed as he bumped my shoulders and walked away...wow.........wait not walked but more like 'glided' away. I was freaked out. I went into the now empty classroom and stood beside the window.

Clank.......clank ......clank......

I heard some noise below me. A heavy metal cabinet was suspended by chains attached to the hooks of the window. The sound came from inside the cabinet. I pulled it in and found that it was locked. I banged it and punched it as hard as I could and at last with the help of the vase, I opened it. The scent of old papers filled my nostrils and an owl stared at me with its big eyes. I flinched back a little and observed that a paper was tied to one of its legs. As soon as I untied the paper, it flapped it’s wings and took off through the window.

I opened the paper to see some small letters. I tucked it into my pocket and went to my class. I was still not over the fact that my best friend since childhood was chanting in Latin and hissed like a snake. Lucas' words sent chills down my spine in a bad way.
