Chapter 1: The Names Riptyde

Hey, what's up y'all! My names Magnis96 and this is my first story EVER! I have my friend and girlfriend to thank for helping me! I'll leave their accounts at the end of this part. I hope you enjoy, DEUCES!!

It was dark...and cold. I was running away from the beast, trying to think of a plan to kill it. I'm trapped, I closed myself off with a dead end. The creature was about 10 feet away, breathing on me. Its breathe smelt like old, hot blood. I reach for my sword...

"JACK! WAKE UP, WE'RE LATE"!! It was 6:30 in the morning and my brother is jumping up and down on my bed...on me. "Late for what, why the hell are jumping on me"?! I'm absolutely pissed. My little brother's name is Johnathan, Johnny for short. It's me, my mother, Anne, and Johnny. My father was an adventurer and was always on the road or at sea. My mom never understood dad, but I did. I loved him, he was my rock and he said that he'll never leave me. A little bit before Johnny was born my dad left for a huge adventure, he said to me 'when this is over, we'll be set for life. I promise, I love you're. He never came back.

"We are late for my graduation, MOVE YOU'RE ASS"!! He leaped off my bed and threw some clothes at me, then ran into his room. The world we live in was full of opportunities, and Johnny wanted only one. All his life he wanted to be part of the DMPU (Dark Magic Patrol Unit). Mom tried out a few times, rejected everytime. "I never knew this was so important to you, do you want me to take my time"? I teased the hell out of him since he was a kid, it's fun but I'm his only person who he depended on. Johnny was about ten years younger than me, I graduated from the academy, like, a year ago.

"Please don't do that, Jack! This means the world to me, please hurry"! He looked like he was about to cry. "I'm just playing around, I'll haul ass". My mom was at her job at the local bar. After breakfast, Johnny and me start running in the direction of the academy as fast as we could. We passed by an old icecream parlour my dad used to take me.

"Oh look, it's the Riptyde's sorry excuse for an eldest son". That...would be Artimus. He's always bullied me ever since my dad left. "You do know the real reason he left, right? It's because you're a pussy and your mom is a whore"! I ignored him as I picked up Johnny, threw him on my back and ran all the way to the academy, leaving Artimus behind.

We got to the academy and I put Johnny down. We walked into the academy and he went off to be with his friends while I went to the snack bar. This is the 73rd Annual High Powers Academy Moving-up, where you pick what you want to do for the rest of your life. I didn't pick a 'job', because I already knew what I wanted to be. An adventurer, like my father. I sat at the chair that had my name on it. "Jackson Riptyde", I never thought my name looked so good on fake ass gold. I sat down and I waited for Johnny to pick his future. I didn't even realize, but one of my old childhood friends was right next to me. Her name was Katlyn, and she was my best friend. My only friend. She stood up for me when Artimus first started bullying me and we became instant friends.

"Sup, Jack! It's been awhile, how are you"? She didn't look any older than the last I saw her. "I'm doing fine. Still surprised I haven't seen you around lately. Where have you been"? I asked like a total weirdo, but she laughed and she told me that she had to help her dad with something. She didn't tell me what though.

An hour goes by and we finally get to Johnny. "Next up: Johnathan Riptyde". As he walked up with that stupid grin of his, I couldn't help but smile. I was so proud of him, and dad would be too. He said his name and looked at the screen behind him. He looked through the options, but he and I already found his future.

"I want to be..."

There was an explosion in the school, there was a lot of screaming and running. I heard Johnny yell as they took him, "JACK"!!

He was gone, and so was the old me...
