IMPORTANT AUTHOR'S NOTE AT THE END

While I was unpacking my stuff, my phone dings. I furrow my brows and pull my phone out of my purse.

“Hello,” I say and toss my shirts in the drawer.

“You never told me your life story last night.” Matt says on the other end. A grin spreads across my face and I lean against my bed post.

“Well you didn’t really give me time to explain. I was going to tell you, but you made me leave.” I say in a flat tone.

“Maybe we could meet up at Starbuck’s and you can tell me.” He says. I wanted to go, but I don’t want to make a mistake and get kicked out. Wait a second…did I just say that I didn’t want to mess this up? Oh shit, I’m going soft again!

“Sure. I’ll meet you in a few minutes.” I say and hang up the phone.

We pull up at Starbucks a few minutes later, and take a booth in the far back corner. I lean back against my car and wrap my hands around the warm mug. My headache was starting to come back and all I wanted was to yell at everyone in the place. Matt however looked like he was perfectly fine, which he didn’t drink last night.

“So your life story…” Matt says and grins at me. I narrow my eyes and lean forward in my seat.

“If you grin again, I’m going to ditch you and go get it on with the coffee boy.” I say and Matt laughs. As soon as we walked in, the coffee boy behind the counter has been staring at me nonstop. I thought about teasing him, but my wolf didn’t want to flirt with another guy.

“Are you sure you want to know my story? It is really fucked up.” I say and pray that he says that he doesn’t want to know.

“Start from your birthday. You…changed after your birthday.” He says and leans forward. His eyes glisten with curiosity. I take a deep breath and begin.

“It was my 18th birthday, and as you know, that is the day you are supposed to meet your mate. Or at least realize that the guy is my mate. Well…” I let my voice fade off and I finally spit it out,” I found my mate.”

“How is that a bad thing?” Matt asks and furrows his brows.

I wet my dry lips and mumble out,” He doesn’t want to be my mate. He…rejected me. Not that it matters or anything, what is done is done. You are supposed to leave the past in the past.”

“But?” Matt asks.

“But I don’t want to leave the past behind. Trust me, I’ve tried to get over the bump in the road but I can’t do it. It is like…I’m stuck in quicksand. The more I move, the deeper I get.” I whisper and glance out the window. Matt growls lightly in his throat and mumbles something under his breath.

“Why would someone reject their own mate? When I meet my mate I will NEVER reject. Who is the dumb bastard that rejected you?” Why was he so anger? Should I tell him that it was Nathan, his best friend? I look over at him with sad eyes, but don’t say anything. I will not break a friend relationship up just because I got rejected.

“I-I can’t tell you. You would never forgive him.” I whisper and a tear slides down my cheek. My face scrunches up and the cold side of me surfaces. I’m letting myself slip by bring this shit up. I purse my lips together and cross my arms over my chest.

“Who is it?” Matt asks sternly.

“Who is who?” I ask with fake confusion on my face. Matt sighs and runs a hand down his face.
