Often, I ponder over why humans are so... naive. They go about their merry way and never think about anything that involves worlds other than their own. But that must come naturally to a woman who's visited hell, heaven, earth, and any other place she could think of. Yes, it must come naturally to me.
My eyebrows raised as I noticed a girl running out of an apartment building, looking like she was in quite the hurry. I hadn't really been given the time to see her face, but she seemed interesting enough.
Well, I don't seem to have any plans today... I wonder where she's headed?
I grinned, tossed my empty coffee cup into the recycling bin closest to me and started to walk after her. She seemed to be going in the direction of the subway station, so I turned down an alley that I knew would get me there before her. When I emerged, I was right in front of that subway entrance.
If she's friendly, I'll tell her about this shortcut. It'd do her some good.
I leaned on the side of the steps, waiting for about five minutes. Finally, watched as she ran past me, barely noticing my presence at all. I waited until she was halfway down the steps to trail after her, smiling as she sat down on a bench in the waiting area for a subway train to the Grayfield campus.
So she's a college student? Must be, cause she's way too young to be teaching anything there.
I was thinking for so long, I barely noticed that I was staring straight at her. She returned my gaze, tilting her head in what I recognized as curiosity.
Maybe I should joke with her a bit, yeah?
My eyes looked her over, and then landed back on her eyes. I leaned forward a bit, biting my lip and smirking at her.
She narrowed her eyes, looking away from me and frowning. Her cheeks turned a dark shade of pink and I chuckled to myself. I pulled out my phone, opened messages, and sent a quick text to Tallin, my best friend.
L: How are things down there?
T: Pretty normal, although there's no demonic goddess to seduce the men into their deathbeds.
L: Ah, I'm sure they'll be fine. Let me know if you need any help.
T: I'm sure I won't, but the same goes for you. Call me for anything.
I looked up from my phone as I was tapped on the shoulder. The girl I'd followed was right in front of me, looking quite curious. "Hey, um.. who are you? I mean, what's your name." She squeezed her eyes shut in what looked like embarrassment, and tried to smile. "You're just really pretty and I'd like to get to know you. I'm Setani, by the way."
I grinned up at her, licking my lips in a way that was much more suggestive that I meant for it to be. "Get to know me, huh? What, do you wanna fuck or something?" I asked the question with a smooth tone, holding my gaze with her.
She shook her head, her eyes widening. "What? No! I- you just seem really cool, that's all."
I smiled, taking her phone from her hand before she offered it to me and typing my number into her already opened contacts app. Jeez, people were so predictable.
"Good, because I'm not into girls." I handed the phone back to her after taking a selfie for a contact photo. She stared at me for a moment, frowning. "Really? You're not? Well, that's cool I guess." She stared down at my newly created contact before stuffing the phone into her pocket. "You shouldn't look at girls like that and then swear you're not into them, yknow?"
I laughed, moving a curl of hair out of my face. "Look at them like what?" I stood up, stretching my arms and sighing. "Nevermind that. You go to Grayfield, right? What's your major?"
She looked shocked for a moment at the fact that I asked this, but after glancing at the sign showing where the train was headed she realized how I knew. "Psychology. Do you go there?"
I shook my head, coming up with a lie quickly. "Nah, I just drift around there because I'm close friends with a few students."
She frowned as I said this and it took everything in me not to laugh as that confused look of hers got even more intense. "So... you just hang around campus?"
"Usually I just wait for them to leave class so we can hang out, although I'm not sure if they're going to be there today, so for once the answer to that is yes." I looked past her as the subway train slowed to a stop at the station. "Let's continue this conversation on the train. Something tells me you can't afford to just sit here and chat all day."
She nodded her agreement, picking up her purse and her folder and walking into the subway train. I sat down next to her, watching as the doors closed. "So, what do you do around here?"
Her question surprised me, so it took me a moment to think about it. "I enjoy new experiences, so I'm usually trying something new or meeting new people around here. I've picked up and dropped a few jobs in the last year that I've been around here." It was true; I didn't really have a reason to work, but it gave me something to do when I wasn't having a new sexual escapade or meeting new friends.
She nodded, taking what I said into thought. "Where do you work now?"
"The coffee shop down the street from here. It's called Mayfields or something."
"I love going there! I'm surprised I've never seen you inside." She seemed confused, doing that cute head tilt again.
Cute? That's a different thought than usual.
I shrugged to myself, looking back at her. "I just started working there two days ago; Monday, I think. There coffee is pretty good, so I think I'll stick around there for awhile."
She nodded her agreement, looking at her phone as a text notification came through. Her facial expression shifted to one of worry, and she quickly responded, sighing. "Looks like I'm gonna be too late to get into my lecture. I wish these damned trains moved faster!" She held her head in her hands, looking stressed.
I haven't exercised my powers in awhile. Let's see how rusty they've gotten..
Mentokinesis happened to be the power I chose to leave hell with. I could've taken them all, but that would've been mentally exhausting, and the world didn't need to be exposed to that yet.
Let's see.. the mind controls the body, and the body controls the actions. I just need to know who I'm targeting.
I looked to the front of the subway train and saw that a man was sitting in the control area.
Probably just for emergencies; these things are usually controlled by one big area in the station.
I stared ahead, narrowing my eyes when I felt that I'd reached my target.
Citius Moveri. Auxilium, Citius Moveri.
I watched as the man reached for the emergency control, pulling back on what seemed like a lever to control the speed of the train. I held tight to the bar beside me as the train slowly gained speed. Setani raised her head, noticing the train going much faster. "What the hell..?" She held onto the bar as well, while the train came to a speed that would get us to the campus about six minutes early.
"Maybe the gods heard your cry for help," I joked, shrugging. She nodded, looking at her phone and smiling. "I'll still have to run to class, but I should get there in time."
The train hit a sharp stop, and I looked up as the doors opened. She looked at me, smiled, and went, "I'll text you or something! Bye!" She ran in the direction of what must have been her class, and I watched with a grin, walking out of the train and heading to one of the campus cafes.
Hell, maybe I'll respond. She seems nice enough to be worth my time.
