Texting someone ten minutes after you meet them is way too soon.... right? I mean, it's not necessarily weird or anything... is it? Just saying hey couldn't hurt. After all, new friends text eachother... I think.
Id been sitting in this room for what felt like hours, and very well could've been that long. I couldn't find my focus, so for the majority of the time, I was just zoned out.
I was shaken out of my thoughts as Talia whacked me with her notebook, rolling her eyes. "You were already half an hour late, and now you can't even pay attention. Listen to what he's saying." She turned back to the professor, listening to the ongoing lecture about how psychology depends on so many different things.
I definitely need to pay attention... I wonder what she's thinking about? Doesn't matter, this lesson is important.
I tuned into what the professor was teaching, although it was a little hard to understand when I wasn't paying attention for so long.
What was he saying about tone of voice? He's way too confusing without even trying. I might as well text somebody and figure this out later.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket, opening up messages and clicking on Johann's contact.
S: Hey loser, whatcha up to?
J: Aren't you supposed to be in a lecture rn?
S: Yeah, why?
J: Ahh, sorry. I'll hit you back later, you know how Talia is. She'll say I'm an accomplice to you not paying attention.
S: Fine, bye kid.
I rolled my eyes, sitting back in my seat and scrolling through my other contacts.
I'll just say hey. That couldn't hurt.
S: Heyyo!
L: Couldn't wait to text me, huh? I feel special.
I stared at the phone for awhile, trying to figure out what to say back.
Is she being sarcastic or just joking..?
I shrugged, finally just sending back a laughing emoji and waiting.
S: XD
L: What are you up to after class? It's boring out here now, and you seem cool enough to hang with.
S: Probably getting brunch with my best friend, sorry! We should totally hang out tomorrow, though.
I looked up from my phone as Talia hit me again, this time harder.
"Ouch, what the hell was that for?!" I sat up, staring at her. I could feel irritation hinting in my voice.
"Do you want to fail or something? Seriously, who are you texting that's more important than your grade?" She stared at me in what I could only recognize as true curiosity and irritation at the same time.
"It's nobody, okay? Pay attention for both of us today and I'll repay you with food or something." I looked back down to my phone after receiving an annoyed huff from Talia. That, fortunately, meant fine.
Another notification came through from Lilith, and I was more excited about it then I'd have liked to be.
L: Alright, that's cool. Let's meet up at the coffee place or something.
S: That sounds great! I'll text you then.
I relaxed, smiling and looking up from my phone. Talia glanced at me, suspicion evident in her gaze, but didn't say anything. I was extremely grateful for that.
I started listening to the professor just as he was closing up the lecture, collecting his books, and bringing everything to an end. Students started to stand up and walk out of the room, and I followed closely behind them, a smile on my face.
As soon as I was out of the room, Talia, was at my side, already seeming more cheerful. "So, about that food thing you said... can we go to the deli? It's on campus so it's only about five minutes from us." She smiled, linking her arm with mine.
"Yeah, totally! That actually sounds really good right now; I was rushing, so I didn't even eat breakfast." I giggled as my stomach seconded my statement.
Talia rolled her eyes, nudging me. "You've gotta start setting double alarms or something, or just stop going back to sleep." She always knew why I was late, even when I didn't say; it's not that I was late often, it's just that it was always for the same reason.
"Yeah, you're right. I'll set another one on my phone when we sit down at the deli." I slid my phone into my pocket and started to walk a little faster. I was hungrier than I thought I was.
"Slow down, jeez! There's no reason to run; it's not like the food will be sitting on a table waiting to you." Talia pulled me back a little, but still kept a quicker pace with me.
After about two more minutes of walking, we were entering the deli. I walked up to the counter while Talia found out seats; we'd been going here long enough for me to know both of our orders by heart.
One of the employees at the deli walked over to where I stood at the counter. She had long reddish-brown hair and green eyes. I'd seen her here a few times, and she was definitely hard to forget with beauty like that. I'd always been sure that she was straight though, so I never tried to pursue her.
"Good afternoon! What can I get for you?" She smiled, and her pearly white teeth shone in my direction.
"I'll get a California Club with fruit and a Smokey Jack Panini, and then a hibiscus tea and a sweet tea." I smiled back at her when I finished saying our order.
"Alright, that'll be $24.67. I'll have that out for you in a few minutes." She walked away, exiting through a door that looked like the kitchen entrance. I swiped my card, entered my pin, and walked away after the payment went through.
"Setani, over here!" I looked over to see Talia sitting in the back corner of the restaurant, and I walked over and sat next to her. "The food should be out in a few minutes. So, how are things with you and that guy going?" She'd been telling me about a cute guy in one of her other classes.
"Same as always. I hit on him, he hits on me, and then we both act like nothing happened." She seemed mildly upset about it.
"You seriously need to make a move. You're both interested in eachother, so just ask for his number or something." I heard the door to the deli open, but I didn't pay it any mind.
"I'll try, I guess." She looked past me, tilting her head. Before I could turn to see what she was staring at, someone sat down next to me.
"Hey, Setani." I turned and saw the girl from earlier, her long curly hair pulled up into a messy bun, showing off her facial features.
She's seriously cute... is she sure she's not into girls?
I noticed Talia staring at me curiously, and I snapped back into reality. "Oh! Hey, Lilith. This is my best friend, Talia. Talia, this is Lilith."
Lilith smiled, crossing her legs and relaxing in her chair. "Nice to meet you, Talia."
