Kyrael fell. And fell. And fell.
It seemed like forever. In the span of a moment, she fell for days. She fell for years. She fell and there was nothing left to do except think. She stared up at the slowly expanding sky and thought about everything she had before.
But she had left her pain on the balcony. And from that new perspective, looking up at the past, everything changed. Suddenly she remembered things that she had never really forgotten. She remembered the faces of her mother and brother. She remembered the memory of her father and the thousands of adventures on which he had taken her and her brother. She thought about her future, and how much potential she had. She thought about Mr. Dorun crying as the bells sang their seven songs for her. And she saw the knights who told her to stay away running at her, mouths wide open, screaming at her to stay. In the pit of her heart, she came to know two horrible truths. She had made a mistake. And it was too late.
