Your hands start to sweat so you rub them off, a soothing motion up, down, up, down, up, down. You barely hear the others songs, only their names as a countdown to your own performance.
Two names to go?! How did that happen? Time is speeding by, marching you closer to your own time to shine, or fail miserably. A hand on your knee tries to comfort, but you are frozen eyes glued to that cursed stage.
The singer before finishes their song, that is met with thunderous applause. Heart pounding, you walk to take the microphone. Eyes follow your every move.
Trying to calm your racing heart you breathe in, out, in, out. The piano music begins forcing you to focus.
The you begin to sing, the song filling the air. You relax into the song letting it burst from your heart, forgetting that you are being watched. You sing the last note, hearing it ring through the room.
It is completely silent, you panic what did you do wrong? Then the cheering starts like a tidal wave of sound, shattering your nerves and making you happy.
