Skyla stared up at the wood boards above her that held together the top bed of the bunk. She stretched her leg upwards and began to trace the pattern of the wood. "Watcha doing?" Skyla whipped her head around to see Clara's blue eyes staring her down.
"What are you doing spying on me?" Skyla retorted angry that she haven't noticed Clara sooner. The less her annoying sworn sister new about her misgivings the better.
"Whatever" Clara said her curly brown locks disapearing back up to the top bunk. For a few minuets Skyla laid on her bed staring up at the wood while Clara fidgeted around on her bunk.
"What are you doing up there" Skyla asked while twirling a piece of her brown-ish orange hair annoyed by Clara's fidgeting.
"Trying to do my math homework, unlike YOU" came the snarky response. Skyla sighed she hated math and never did and homework for it. I didn't matter anyway no one would care if she got bad grades they she was an orphan after all and none of the caretakers actually cared about the girls grades or any of the girls for that matter. Skyla let her thoughts wander they drifted from topic to topic finally resting on the fact that Mark hadn't responded to her letter yet.
"There's something moving outside" Clara told Skyla
"Yeah it's called rain dummy" Skyla responded ignoring ins Clara's silly observations
"It looks like a bird to me" Clara snapped
"Don't be ridiculous" Skyla said "What bird would be stupid enough to travel in this weather?" Even as she said this however she turned to look at what Clara thought could possibly be a bird. And sure enough Clara was right. Skyla stared out the window astonished befor realizing that the bird out the window was hers. Skyla hoped off her bed and ran over to the window pushing it open and yelling "Ember!!!!!!" The bird turned as if it recognized her voice befor seeing Skyla. holding the window open skyla waited until Ember flew into the room befor closing the window. Skyla stared in awe at the letter Ember was clutching to its chest. Skyla let out a sigh of relief "he finally responded!" Skyla breathed
"Who finally responded?" Clara asked climbing down from her bed.
"Mark!" Skyla answered "Mark found it!" she said scanning the letter again
"Found what?" Clara asked "The book about the first sightings of UFOs, Dragons, and other mythical beings?"
"No Clara" Skyla responded "it's a really old text document about the Stone Age" Skyla said as she pulled on her boots "It could be the key to understanding thier ancient language!" grabbing her friends hand and dragging her over to the door of their room
"Wait a minute are you seriously thinking about going out in the rain?" Clara said "we could catch a cold!" She said pouting now.
"I'll buy you a cupcake from the bakery" Skyla said
"Deal" Clara said "what are we waiting for lets go!" And with that Clara dragged Skyla by her hand out of their room down the stairs and out the door.
