'Mike where are my socks?'
'How am I supposed to know where your socks are?'
'Those red fluffy ones, you borrowed them yesterday' I yell. It's not good for my throat to have a conversation with somebody downstairs while I'm upstairs.
He doesn't answer
'Michael!'
'Noooo' Jeez he can be a pain in the ass sometimes. I run downstairs and jump on top of him while he lies on the couch.
'Ooouch Aimee watch out my remote!' I take the ps4 remote out of his hands.
'First give me my socks back'
He sighs, runs upstairs and comes back with my socks
'Now go away little mouse'
'You're only one and a half year older'
'Still you're little' he laughs. Mike is seriously half a foot longer than me, even though he's only 18 and I'm 17
'I'm upstairs' I say as I run back to my room. I don't know why we're always running in this house.
'Okayy'
'That wasn't even that bad' I clean my mouth with my napkin.
'Oh don't lie to yourself please'
'No, I'm serious, it's better than I expexted'
'Because you always have such high expectations of me' Michael laughs sarcastic
I smile, put my plate in the dish washer and take my jacket.
'I'm off to mum'
'Okay, give her a kiss off me. I'll go visit her tomorrow'
'Okayy' I shut the door behind me and walk over to the bus stop. It will be here in 5 minutes.
15 minutes later I walk into the hospital. I'm almost getting used to walk in here. Altough I don't think you will ever get used to visiting your mum in the hospital.
Level 3, department oncology, room 14. 14 is her favorite number, I think that can not be a coincidence.
I walk into the room and the first thing I see is her smile. It never changes, always that same grateful loving smile that I admire so much. It is inspiring to see her like this, but still so strong.
'Hey mum'
'Hi sweetie!' I walk over to her and kiss her bald head. Right when I'm about to pull back, I give her another kiss.
'That one was from Mike'
I can see the crinkles around her eyes because of her bright smile.
'How was your Maths test?'
'It was okay. How are you?'
'I am great! Well, a little sleepy. They put this new thing into my arm to get my headache away, but it makes you so tired!' She laughs and points at a pin in her arm, which is attached to a hanger with a little bag of fluid.
I sigh and wonder how she can be so positive of everything. After all of this. The divorce with dad, the cancer, being healthy, cancer returning again. I wonder if it will ever stop.
'Look what I got for you' I take my bag and pull out a present wrapped in red paper. Red has always been her favourite colour.
'Oh sweetie why are you buying me presents all the time?' She opens the pack and looks at the woolen red hat.
'You think I will get too cold here?' she laughs
'Noo, but it's getting colder outside and I know you'll be allowed to go outside with a wheelchair, and I'm sure it looks amazing on you' I pull the hat over her head and take a mirror out of my bag.
