steam

I pull the valve towards me. The water flows, freezing at first but scorching once I turn it to my preferred temperature. The bathroom begins to fog, my glasses coat in a hot vapor just like the mirror across from me. I place my spectacles on the vanity. I glance back up at the mirror, I can't see myself and for once I realize how appreciative I am of the steam. It hides my reflection in a different way than I ever could. I turn  away and pull back the curtain. I step under the boiling water and let the steam consume me. Physically lettingn it hide my reflection, the bliss of not having to hide myself is gratifying. Thank you steam.
