Bryce enters his house after coming home from school. He goes straight to his room and falls onto his bed exhausted. He lays face up staring at the ceiling fan above his head.
Bryce: "This place has gotten so boring. Nothing ever happens anymore." He rolls over looking towards his tv and grabs the remote then proceeds to turn it on. He scrolls through the channels until he finds something interesting. He half listens while trapped in thought
TV Voice: "And today there has been another fatal crash involving three people on the mountain pass called Devil's Run, north of town. Two cars went down at high speeds when one hit a guardrail and spun into the other car causing the first driver to get killed and injuring the two in the second car. This is only one of many recent crashes happening on that pass. It's a wonder they haven't closed it yet." The rest fades out as Bryce turns down the volume.
Bryce: "If people can't handle the pass then what's the point driving it? They know they'll die or be put in a coma so why bother?" He gets up and goes in the living room to see if anyone else is home. To his surprise nobody is. "Damn it that means I'm cooking tonight." Bryce shuffles over to the kitchen and starts to cook some kind of pasta with a mix of Alfredo sauce and grilled chicken.
Around 5 minutes before the dish is ready, Bryce's brother and mother walk through the door with multiple shopping bags in hand.
Bryce's Mom: "Hey son, how was school?"
Bryce: "Apparently not as fun as where you were. Where did you even go?" He gestures towards the bags while which his brother runs over and grabs a plate then stuffs the plate with food.
Bryce's Mom: "Oh, we only went to GameStop and the movies. That new movie about a free for all survival game came out."
Bryce's Brother: "It was called Hunger Wars or something." Bryce's brother proceeds to stuff his face full of the Alfredo pasta mix.
Bryce: "It's called Hunger Games, I've read the book."
Bryce's Brother: "That's the one, it was crazy fun to watch with all the action and lovey dovey stuff."
Bryce: "Their love was staged to trick the game makers you dunce. Dinner is on the stove, I'm not that hungry so I'm going out for a bit. I'll be back later tonight. " Bryce goes over to his room and grabs his car keys, a sweater, and a hat then goes to the garage.
Bryce: "Ah, the one place I feel at home" He says to himself as he unlocks his car and gets in it. The car is a Blue 2005 Lotus Elise 111S. Its drivetrain is a mid-engine rear wheel drive, or MR for short.
Bryce pulls out of the driveway after opening the garage at the click of a button then turns right heading up towards the mountain roads, towards Devil's Run.
On Bryce's way up the mountain he sees a bunch of slightly modified Japanese sports cars along with some american sports cars going to the top.
Bryce: "God damn it, is there going to be another fatal race? When will these guys quit and learn something?" Bryce hits the gas more as an act of challenging the other drivers to an uphill race to the top. Two drivers oblige to the invitation and follow. One guy in a 1993 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec and the other in a 1992 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
The convoy of cars thunder up the many hairpin turns of Devil's Run while dodging the occasional traffic car. The Elise accelerates and holds speed through the corners two car lengths ahead of the GT-R behind it with the Corvette close behind the GT-R as the top of the mountain gets closer by the second.
