After the game tying five to five, the Ducks gathered by their bench together. Ellie didn't even realize her brother was in pain as he listened to his teammates. He had stood up, half leaning against Charlie for help, who gladly offered it. Charlie and Garrett stood together, listening to Coach's final words as the shoot out was to begin and he needed to pick his five players. Charlie helped him out in picking them, telling him who their best shooters were under pressure.
With Goldberg as USA's goalie, they were set with their lineup of five players. Guy, Jesse, Dwayne, Fulton, and Adam. Ellie had taken her seat next to Connie and Julie, watching the shoot out begin. Shoot outs were stressful and she was glad she wasn't picked for it because she isn't well under pressure when it's just her, everyone's watching, there's one goalie, and she needs a guaranteed shot.
Jesse waited for the signal of the ref, and when it came, he went. Kicking the puck gently forward with his foot, he brought if forward with his stick after words. Coming up close, he deked to the opposing way he came and shot, scoring. Iceland went next, scoring as, well, keeping it a tie still.
Up next, Guy skated forward at a normal pace, keeping his stance strong and firm. He kept the puck on the same side of his stick. Approaching the net, the goalie pulled forward and he was able to shoot, as he was too slow to reach it. Iceland went up right after, keeping the back to back rotation. As Iceland approached, slowing in front of Goldberg, he shot right at the glove, causing Goldberg to save it.
USA's bench erupted into laughter. Charlie looked down from jumping up and down as Garrett leaned to the side, away from Charlie. "Garrett, you okay?" He asked, within seconds of asking, Garrett through up, causing a bunch of groans and 'ohs' from people around the bench. Gordon turned, seeing what had happened and asked someone to help out Garrett, and take him to the locker room. Miss MacKay left with him, helping him up as they walked off and entered the locker room. Bombay badly wanted to help, but he was coaching and couldn't do anything to get out of it and help.
"Poor kid." Gordon spoke, shaking his head, upset he couldn't help out Garrett. Looking back, Dwayne picked up the pick with his stick, hitting it multiple times up and down, causing the goalie's eyes to go wonky as he tried adjusting them quick enough to see where the puck was. Dwayne allowed the puck to drop, passing it forward and then between his feet, he took a shot and it got saved. Up next, Iceland goes and it's through. Making it tied again.
Fulton goes, passing the blue line and stops. The goalie was already shaking, knowing what this buff player could do. Fulton listed his powerful arms, and took a shot. Hitting the goalie in the head, who fell and the puck dropped, falling off the helmet and into the net. "Is that allowed?" Ellie asked.
"Yes, now be quiet."Connie spoke, being concentrated on the game. "I'm just kidding." She said as Ellie shoved her against Luis. Number five from Iceland came up, bringing the puck close and fast, not stopping, he came all the way and shot to the left instead of right, a hard thing to sorta do. He rounded the net, his arms in the arm.
The brunette with well working wrist skated out on the ice, causing everyone to be quiet. Seeing him out there was stressful, not knowing if his wrist would give or not, but Bombay had so much faith in this exceptional player who's devoted his life to hockey and has proven he wants to be here. Adam rotated his wrist side to side before starting and when he did, he approached the net hesitantly, and took his shoot, putting everything in it. he stopped, smiling as it went in.
He looked over at his teammates, who smiled and cheered, but it wasn't over yet. Gunnar Stahl, the best player from Iceland, still needed to face off against Goldberg, or should we say, Julie 'The Cat' Gaffney. She was cold, but skated out anyways, hitting her stick off each of the bars. This player did a triple deke and she knew exactly which side he shot on, since Bombay had informed her beforehand. Counting the number of times he deked, she was ready as her glove was brought up and everyone gasped, thinking he scored, when he didn't.
USA was on their feet, jumped the boards, throwing their sticks, gloves, helmets, and what ever else on the ice. Approaching Julie, they all ran into one another as they yelled from pure excitement. In the locker room, Garrett could hear the sounds of joy as he missed out on it, taking his sweaty gear off as Miss MacKay had given him a wet towel to wrap around his neck until she gets Bombay and a doctor to look at Garrett's neck and lower back.
Leaning his forearms against the wall with his head bowed, his feet planted on the ground, back curved, he groaned and had a bucket below him in case he were to purge his guts out. He knew then that he had eaten too much and that hit had struck him hard. Back in the arena, USA was celebrating and Ellie hugged each of her teammates, now knowing this was over and she was to either return home or go back with Bombay. She didn't know where was going next, but as she hugged them, she couldn't help but be worried about her brother, who was missing out on this.
A little while after, in the locker room, everyone filed in with cheers as Garrett had been moved out of the large space and over to the side where their massage table was. He lied on his stomach, in his lower hockey gear, except for skates since Miss MacKay had taken those off for him and he had no shirt on. "Where's Garrett?" Gordon asked, walking around as he searched for him through the partying group of hockey players.
"Over here!" Miss MacKay called as she noticed him and flagged him down. Charlie stood at his spot, glancing over the bodies and heads at his teammate, who he felt extremely bad about. He wished there was something he could, but he can't do anything other than support him and help him if he needs something.
"Garrett, you have me worried." He spoke, running a hand through his long hair. "Was it-"
MacKay shook her head. "No, he doesn't want to talk about it, but he's got pain at the back of his neck and lower back. He's thrown up once since we've been here and won't drink anything."
Ellie ran over in half her gear, same as Garrett, except she had a shirt on. Coach was going to tell Ellie to finish getting undressed so she could leave, but she explained what to do and how to help her brother. It's not that this has happened before, but she doesn't know what to do about the injury, she simply knows how to help if he's sick. She told to grab some Ginger Ale with a spoon of sugar, and he should be fine after that, but he'll remain reckless, tired, and completely out of it for the rest of the night.
Bombay did as told and she lowered next to her brother, setting her hand on his bicep. "Hey, it's me, Rhett, they're grabbing some stuff to make your stomach better. How's the pain?" She asked softly.
He turned his head to the side slightly, looking at her. "Seven and a half, going to six." He answered.
"All right, I'd like to stay, but have to pack. Can I bring you anything?"
"No, but make sure the System doesn't break." She nodded and rubbed his arm, then left. Getting back to her locker, she finished getting undressed and left with her teammate.
