Chapter 2: The Taking

I immediately stopped crying but then we heard someone else come into the house. "Hey Max, Remember to kill any men over the age of 40 and kill any women over the age of 35." The unknown man says. "Yeah, okay" says Max. "Also is there any humans in this house" the man says. I then start to tremble, but calmed down a bit when Max told him "No, there aren't any humans in this house". The man then walked out of the house. After he left Max then bent down to face me and said " listen here, little man. We are bad people coming to hurt your friends and family. I suggest you stay in this closet and don't make a sound until you are absolutely sure you hear nothing outside. Wait about 3 hours, then make run for it. Your family is probably dead so you're probably on your own. Tonight is the beginning of a new era. This world is about to change as we speak. Your fate is in your own hands now. Goodluck!" He then shut the closet door and started trashing the place. After about 10 minutes he left and I sat in the closet with tears in my eyes, waiting for the screams and the sounds of blades hitting flesh to stop... until I heard my own mothersp scream. I then ran out of the closet, outside and toward the sound of the scream. When I got outside i was stunted at what I had found. Everyone was dead. Every house was on fire. I heard my mother's voice and I ran over to her. Her face was bloody, her clothes were ripped, her pants were down.. and she had bruises on all of her body.. I started crying. Who would do this? Why? What did they want? My mother then began to speak "Mark, I am afraid we won't be there to care for you anyone." "Who did this" i said "People who are far scarier than any fairytale. They are monsters. Mark, there is a secret me and your father has been keeping from you since birth. I can't tell you yet because you are too young to understand. In 10 years time, when you turn 15 years old go to the north and find an old lady named Maddie Thorn. She will tell you everything you need to know." My mom says."Okay mom but where's dad?" I say "He's no longer in this world" my mom says.. then there was about a 2 minute silence.. "Mark you need to be strong for me and your father, always remember you will be great. I'm (cough) sorry. I have (cough) to go now. I love you, Mark" my mom says as she took her last breathe, leaving me with a complete lost of words. My mother was now dead. What am I supposed to do now? I was only 5 years old. I was so lost. I had to gather all my strength and courage, and go to somewhere safe. I have to survive for 10 years, and on the day I turn 15, I had to travel north to find a lady named Maddie Thorn. She would help me, but first I had to figure out a way to survive on my own.. i was in the middle of my thoughts, when i heard a twig move. I quickly snapped out of it, and turned around. When I turned around I was met was Max and 4 others.. "Max, thought you said you killed everyone" the man from earlier said. "I did, we aren't allowed to kill the kids. They're supposed be slaves" Max said as he gave a worried but I told you so look. "Okay, well catch this one, and put him in the cart with rest" the man said. "Okay" Max said as he started walking to me. I then looked around and the other men were just staring at me. I got up off the ground and ran, Max then started to chase me. I thought I could outrun him, but I was wrong. His legs were long and muscular while mine were short and thin. In a manner of 3 minutes he caught up and caught me. I was yelling for him to put me down, but he just remained silent while carrying me back to where the other men are. " I told you kid, we are bad people. You should have waited in the closet, then left. Now you're gonna end up a slave" he suddenly said. As we made our way back to where the men were. We walked to a cart. The cart was about medium sized, it was filled with kids. It had bars all around it to keep kids from escaping. The cart also had some sorta of sheet over it. Max then shoved me into the cart and locked it. I looked around to see kids my age and a bit older. Some kid with Blond hair and blue eyes began to speak "Hey, I know you. Your name is Mark. Your dad worked in the Mines." He says. "Yeah he did" I say dryly as I sat down "Do you know where they are taking us." I say. "No, I don't, but my name is Richard." "Nice to meet you Richard." I say. "Nice to meet you too, Mark" he says..
