A new day for me. I was getting ready to leave for my new Academy, I couldn't go to a normal high school acording to my stepmother's wallet.
I wasn't completly against it, education is education.I was putting on the uniform while getting my case ready, I finished everything by putting the red tie and black vest on.
It was a 3 months plan with the weekends free. Not being with my dad and my stepmum was gonna be difficult, but I was going to be just fine.I went to the living room where my dad and my stepmum were waiting for me, they knew I already had breakfast. My stepmum went over and hugged me, she was petite unlike my birth mother, but i still considered her strong.
I separeted from the hug and vent down so she could reach my cheek and kiss it. She was crying happy tears, but she told me not to worry about it as she carefully wiped them off with a hankerchief, I wasn't the kindest type, but I kissed her cheek softly as a confort.
My dad put his hand on my shoulder and smiled. It was time to go.---
The school was nice, a white and black building with a copper statue of a horse in the entrance, big woods area on the back, and carefully treated gardens in the front. I think it was gonna be a bit too elegant for my taste, but I thrusted that I could have a calm place to read.
- Okay, son. Here we are, Redmoon Academy...-. My dad was the anxious, kinda overprotective type of parent, but he knew I would be fine. - Maybe I should make you company to the office-. I stopped him before he could do that.
- Dad, I'll be okay. I'll call you every day-. I promised him, it was to calm him down more than for my own confort, but I gotta admit; I, myself, was a bit nervous to be in such a big place.
We finally said goodbye as I took my brief case and my portfolio, I went over to the entrance and for some weird reason couldn't find a map. I was worried about that, not even a sign to anounce the office, I would have to ask. I looked around but there weren't any people at this hour, but, to be fair I did enter in Sunday at 8 a.m.
Finally I saw someone, a guy that was holding a camera outside, because he had the uniform, I knew he was a student. He looked a tad bit busy, but I couldn't just stay there looking like an idiot.
- Uhm, excuse me?-. He ended taking photos of something, but looked back at me smiling. He had soft freckes and bright hazel eyes, round glasses and rosy cheeks. He looked a bit like a doll or a small kid. - Sorry, didn't mean to disturb you, but I don't know where the main office is... And... I'm new-. I was a bit nervous to talk, but I used to be the quiet kid in every other school I went to.
- Oh, don't worry, I was done already anyways!-. He smiled blushing a bit, and offering me his free hand, I took it shaking it, he was very warm. - Welcome to Redmoon, I'm Patton. I can take you to the main office and get you a map, Sunday is the secretary's free day-. He took a smaller case and placed his whole camera equipment back on it's place.
- Oh, thank you. I'm Logan, pleassure-. I was lucky this guy, Patton, was nice enough, I may have gotten used to my old middle school's answears of "Piss off, nerd!", to my old time least favourite "Why don't you ask your Mummy to do so?!". Patton seemed far more educated and kinder than the other guys at my old school.
When he was done, he took his small equipment case and also mine even if i insisted on carrying it myself, he told me he wanted to be nice so I let him take both. He walked into the building asking me to follow him.
He went trough a hallway then he turned to the right, where a metal door was open. He then stopped and smiled.- Jani! Is that you?!-. He asked with a playful tone in his voice. I heard rattling from the office in company of a small swear from a snarky voice. After that, a guy that wore the same uniform except for the tie, came out from the door; he had a notorious red birth mark on the left side of his face and also a black fedora on.
- Patton! What was that screaming?! You almost gave me a heart attack!-. After that screaming, he looked up at me and blushed, covering immediatly his birthmark with a mortified look. - And... Who- who are you... new guy?-. He tried to sound confident but was failing. I think he was self concious about his birth mark.
- My name is Logan, and if it helps, I don't mind your birth mark. It gives you a facinating look-. I smiled a bit to look more relaxed so I wouldn't bother him. I had the impression that it did help since he slowly put his hand down.
- Pleasure-. He still didn't look up and turned back to Patton once again, clearing his troath with a subtle cough. - So what is it that you need, Pat?-. He asked speaking clear and cunning, quite different from the self concious young lad I saw a moment ago.
- Oh, well, Logan didn't get a map, or a room key. Just need to check quickly, promise!-. He scratched the back of his head and smiled a bit shy. Patton was like a puppy, excitable and quick to get shy. When the boy, (who's name I still didn't knew), nodded, Patton went quickly into the office skipping, leaving me alone with the birth mark lad.
- So, what's your name?-. I asked just trying to make small talk for a bit. I was never the best at it, but I was interested in getting to know more about him. He stayed quiet for a bit before looking up just a bit, still with flustered cheeks.
- Janus... But in the photo club they call me Deceit-. I was curious about that nickname. But as I opened my mouth to bring it up, he put his hand up and spoke. - You gotta be part of the club to know the why, or to call me that-. He wasn't joking, he was actually a bit somber toned when he spoke.
- I don't think I should join, I'm not the best at photography... I mean, I went to photo galleries before but...-. As I was speaking, I heard Patton make a sound of distress in the office. Both Janus and I went in and looked at Patton with a few papers in his right hand and his phone on the left on, right next to his ear.
- What do you mean 6 months?!... No, no, Camden I understand you, but... Yes but the presentation... Watch that tone!... No, Camd- hello?-. He looked at the screen and huffed. He turned around and as he saw Janus and me, he was almost teary eyed. - Jani... Camden is gonna be on exchange for 6 months...-. He was about to cry. Janus on the other hand was pissed by that.
- WHAT?! But we have the photography contest around christmas!-. They were angry about this guy "Camden", I personally thought it was a bit of an over reaction, but if he was uncapable to do as his obligations were set, then I understood why they were so distressed.
- What are we gonna do? The Professor Picani told us that the club needs at least 5 members!-. Patton was about to cry. That shaky voice, trembling pouty lips, red eyes... Just like me back when I was a kid. He was just a kid at heart still, but I didn't knew anything about photography... Then again, I was a fast at learning.
- How about... I join?-. I was never the type to do things without thinking. I was rational, I was a logical mind. I wasn't meant to get into any after school activity to get extra classes!
But... Just looking at Patton getting so sad for the plausible loss of his club, and Janus' terror that he tried to hide under a mask of confidence... I couldn't allow myself to be that cruel, or even disenterested... They needed someone who would compromise...
And so my life was changed forever, thanks to the photography club...
