"Peggy, don't you believe me? Why would I lie about Lafayette courting me?" I asked as Peggy dragged me to the kitchen where Lafayette was.

She stopped abruptly once we had reached the front room. "Girls can be mean," she stated.

I didn't really understand where she was going with that statement, so I said, "Um...can I get some clarification on that?"

"You probably lied about Lafayette courting you because you didn't want me to try and go for him. You wanted him for yourself."

Well, I guess that kinda makes sense, I thought. But I'm her friend. Friends wouldn't do that to each other. I then thought about what my "friends" did to me. Well...maybe they would. Actually, no! Real friends wouldn't do that. Those people weren't my real friends.

"Peggy, I would never do that to you," I said with a soft smile. "I love you too much to do that."

I thought I saw Peggy smile for half a second, but I'm still not sure. She cleared her throat and said, "Maybe you do love me too much to be mean to me. But I'd rather have a second answer from someone. Someone that I know wouldn't lie."

That stung a little, but I shrugged it off. "Okay. Go for it."

Peggy then continued to drag me to the kitchen, where I saw Lafayette making dinner. I smiled softly. He looked cute. He was humming and swaying a little to his tune.

Peggy cleared her throat once more, causing Lafayette to turn around and smile at both of us. "Ah, hello, ladies. How may I help you?"

Peggy smiled sweetly at the Frenchman before her. "Um, (Y/N) has just told me something preposterous, and I want to know if she's wrong or not."

   I rolled my eyes.

Lafayette looked over at me for a split second before looking back at the fairly young Schuyler. "Oh? And what would that be?"

"She says that you're courting her." Peggy scoffed and rolled her eyes. "That can't be true, right?"

Lafayette looked at me again, then back at Peggy. "Uh...that is true, Ms. Schuyler...you didn't believe her?"

Peggy's facial expression went from "innocent" to horrified. "W-What..?"

Lafayette turned his head to the side and said quietly, "Ms. Schuyler...if I didn't know any better, I'd say that you're jealous...and that you like me..."

Peggy tensed up and began laughing awkwardly. "What? L-Lafayette...I'm not jealous! And I don't like you! How could you suggest something like that?"

Lafayette blushed from embarrassment. I could tell he felt ashamed for assuming things. "I-I'm sorry if I offended you, Ms. Schuyler. That was not my intention. I really shouldn't have assumed things..."

Peggy was still flustered. She turned her head away. "I-it's fine..." She glanced between me and Lafayette before saying, "I...have to go to the bathroom..."

She then ran into the bathroom, locking herself in there.

Lafayette turned to me. "Uh...do you know what was wrong with her..? I have a feeling she's jealous of you and likes me still.."

"She is, and she does," I responded, not even stretching the truth for her sake. "She said she liked you, and when I told her that we were courting, she flipped out. I guess women just like beautiful men."

Lafayette laughed a little. "Should I talk to her?" he asked. "Ya know, make her feel better?"

I nodded. "Probably. I'll come with you. I wanna make her feel better as well."

Lafayette nodded, smiled, and grabbed my hand. "Then let us go, mademoiselle."

I giggled to myself as Lafayette began to lead me upstairs. I could feel warmth from his hand. Both physical and spiritual. The spiritual heat from his hand almost promised that no matter what happened, he would never leave me.

And I hoped that was the case.

Bleh. This is getting corny. Stop torturing your readers, (Y/N).

Anyway, Lafayette and I went into my room a few seconds later. There, Peggy was sitting on my bed, staring at the covers of it. She must not have heard us come in, because after a few seconds of standing there, she was still staring at the blankets. She sighed to herself and mumbled something I couldn't hear.

Lafayette then cleared his throat. A declaration that we existed.

Peggy looked up at us, her expression sad. She looked like she was about to cry. "Oh." She looked away again. "It's you guys."

"Um, oui," Lafayette responded awkwardly. "We came to talk to you."

Peggy looked at us once again. "I'm sorry, but I don't really wanna talk right now."

"As you wish," Lafayette said. He turned to leave, but I grabbed his arm and pulled him back. "What?" he asked me.

Not answering him, I say to Peggy, "Please. Let us talk to you."

She huffed in exasperation. "Fine. What about?"

"About what happened downstairs," Lafayette answered. "Please tell us the truth, Ms. Schuyler. Are you jealous of (Y/N)? Because if you are, I won't judge! Do I really look like the type of person that would judge you over something that you can hardly control?"

Peggy let a small smile slip. "No. Of course not."

"Then tell us the truth." Lafayette grabbed Peggy by the shoulders. "Please? I'll make you some baguettes, croissants, or anything that you fancy."

Peggy smiled wider and took Lafayette's hands off her shoulders. "I'm gonna hold you to that offer. But fine. I'll tell you both the truth."

I already knew the truth and didn't really need or want to hear it, but I didn't say so. Not the time.

Peggy sighed and looked at Lafayette. "Lafayette, it's true. I'm jealous of (Y/N) because I really like you. I have for a while. And when I found out that you and (Y/N) were courting," she chuckled to herself, "it was like a slap in the face..."

Lafayette looked at Peggy sympathetically. "I'm flattered, Ms. Schuyler, I really am. But why would you want to waste your time on me? I'm not that great, I'm taken, and you're a beautiful, single woman! You should try to find another man! One that's right for you."

I smiled. Lafayette always had a way with words. "And I'll help you hunt one down," I cut in, smiling. "But just to warn you, I'm gonna have really high standards."

   Peggy smiled. "How high?"

"As high as the sky," I answered.

Peggy giggled. "Fair enough. I am your child, after all."

   Lafayette looked at me, confused.

"Figurative child," I clarified. "It's a term of endearment."

   "Ah," Lafayette said, understanding.

   "So, we're good?" I asked.

   "We're good," Peggy smiled.

Us three then began to talk about life, like the whole ordeal never happened.
