The lush Kantonian forest almost seemed to glow in the sun's light, basking in the glory of its soothing and beautiful rays. The green of the forest seemed almost too pure to be real but it was.

The forest was alive with noise. The content chirping of Pidgeys, the scuttling of Caterpies and Weedles across the forest floor, and the sound of a Butterfree or two beating their wings against the air.

But those noises weren't the only sounds you could hear from within the forest. You could also hear the sound of footsteps, two pairs of footsteps. One set timid, the other set confident and buoyant. The feel of their footsteps also happened to match the sounds of their young voices. One voice nervous and shy, the other overflowing with cheerfulness.

"Where are we going?" The shy voice of a young honey blonde-haired girl rang through the forest's trees.

"Away," The other more confident voice of a young raven-haired boy casually replied to the first.

"Away from what?" The girl's voice questioned still brimming with timidness.

"The others," The boy replied with the same casual tone as he jumped over a protruding tree root. He paused, waiting for the girl to jump over the root as well. When she finally did leap she stumbled on her landing, nearly falling over before being caught mid fall in the arms of the boy.

"You alright?" He asked kindly, helping her back onto her feet.

"Y-yes I'm fine. Thank you Ash," The girl responded, her shyness peaking as a bright pink blush spread across her cheeks. Ash gave her his classic toothy grin which only caused her to blush more as she straightened herself up.

The girl's little mishap did not deter the two as they continued to walk through the trees, dodging low hanging branches and walking somewhat slowly to avoid tripping on a rock or tree root.

Finally their walk led them to a small clearing between the trees. Deciding that the clearing was far enough away from their campsite the two stopped and sat down on the luscious green grass, taking in the forest air.

"Now this is what I'm talking about. Just you, me, and the forest," The boy sighed, contented, and laid down in the grass, cozying himself in it.

"Mhm," The girl replied without words, the blush from before returning to her face as she laid down in the grass next to Ash.

The two continued to lay in the grass for a couple minutes in a comfortable silence, listening to the sounds of the forest and enjoying the clear view they had of the blue, cloud-filled sky.

Suddenly Ash tensed having heard the sound of nearby footsteps treading through the forest nearby. He quickly sat up causing the girl to also sit up in confusion having not heard the footsteps. He searched for the direction of the noise as it grew louder becoming slightly worried as he realized that it was coming towards them.

"Ash..?" The girl softly spoke, her concern was evident as she silently questioned him.

"Someone's coming," he spoke swiftly and quietly as he stood up fully.

The girl also stood up, walking to stand behind his back as the footsteps drew closer and closer.

Finally the source of the footsteps, a boy, emerged through the bushes along with two others. Ash panicked slightly having known these boys from the summer camp they were attending. The three children were bullies who's main target had been Ash throughout the entire duration of the summer camp. Although the boys were dim witted they were tough and a whole lot bigger than Ash, a fact that caused him to shift nervously as he remembered the most recent bruise he had received from the trio after they had cornered him by one of the cabins.
