Ok so instead of actually writing something after all this time I decided that imma just complain about tropes and cliches in Amourshipping fanfictions (or just Pokemon fanfictions in general) that make me want to yeet myself out my bedroom window. I'm not saying that all stories with these tropes are bad. I've read a lot of amazing and interesting stories with these tropes in them. It's just that these tropes are everywhere and I can't escape them and I like whining about things lol.

Trope #3: Ash Betrayed/Alone

There's not really much I can say about this one because I haven't read one (because I've made the executive decision to avoid them) but when I go looking for some amourshipping jazz this trope is all over the place. Like you don't have to scroll very far to find them because they're within 8 books of each other at all times. If you're actually looking to read this trope then lucky you because if you look up 'amourshipping' you won't be able to miss it.

Trope #2: Aura Powers

This one doesn't annoy me as much as others because I'm actually interested in Ash's aura powers and I wish they went more in depth about them in the anime (and I wish they'd given him a Lucario). The problem is when they're hyper focused on these aura powers to the point where it can end up becoming cringy. Like literally every chapter Ash has to double over in pain because he's sensin them strong auras or he uses his powers to fuck with Gary every paragraph or something like that. Especially if I came to the story for that amourshipping jazz (and it's being presented as such extremely clearly). This trope can be good when it's used in the right ways though.

Trope #1: High School AUs

Oh boy oh boy oh boy is this one fucking everywhere. It haunts me. Every time I think I've found something original I read the description and it's a heccin High School AU. Don't get me wrong I've read amazing High School AU stories but when they're literally one of the only things you can find you tend to get sick of them really quickly. There's a multitude of different forms of High School AUs and I'm gonna list some of them off. Opposites attract, either Ash or Serena are moving to a new school, bad boy Ash, nerd Serena and popular boy Ash and vise versa (whoever ends up popular may or may not be a bully which is just why. Neither of them are anything like that but ok), friends since childhood, and etc. Ash also may or may not have aura powers. There are also some tropes I've seen in the High School AUs. Serena getting woken up by Fletchling (every. single. time. without fail), Ash getting abused or mistreated by his dad (and in some cases his mom for whatever reason), Gary and Ash being friends (I actually like this one tho because I love Gary and I want him to show up in the anime again so badly like please), Red and Ash being brothers, and etc. Like I said earlier I've seen some pretty spectacular stories that are High School AUs but I've seen them so many times that they've gotten old. I just wanna see something more original.
