Conduits- Infamous: Second Son Fanfiction

"They haven't builded a destroyed bridge Conduits cant cross"

I must have fallen asleep or something because when I woke up, we were slamming on the breaks and at a road block. I slammed my head on the back of the passenger seat and I was awake. It hurt and I had a head ache from the wake up. I looked around and there was a road block. I don't mean the type of road block where cop cars are lined across the road and there is only one way through it, no. I mean a conduit road block. The whole thing was made of concrete. Little passages to lead to a bridge, just big enough for people to get through. Augustine didn't want any of us getting to her, and it was easy to tell. It wasn't going to stop us though, and she should know.

"You ok there, kid?" Eugene asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just have a little head ache." I reply.

"You missed our amazing conversation about Heaven Hellfire strategies, kid." Eugene's friend said turning around and looking at me.

"Don't worry, it wasn't anything interesting." Fetch said as she nudged me.

"Heaven Hellsfire takes a lot to play, Fetch." Eugene said in the front seat looking in the mirror at Fetch.

"Anyways, we are not getting though here." His friend said

"There is a bridge on the other side of here. Think it is destroyed?" I asked.

"Probably. I doubt the DUPs want anyone getting in here." Eugene friend said. "What are you guys going to do?"

"Don't worry, dude. We can take it from here." Eugene said.

We all got out and thanked the dude for driving us. We watched him leave and started walking to the bridge. It was destroyed all right. Almost all of it was gone. Very few parts were left standing and heaven knows that the same is going to happen to the bridge to New York.

"Well, this is too far for any of us to jump." Fetch said.

"Indeed it is. How will we get over it?" Eugene said

"Won't be a problem." I say.

I start gathering water to form a bridge to the other part of the destroyed bridge and I freeze it. It was a big ice bridge, bigger than enough to walk on and be safe from falling off the side. It was a great creation, and it was easy to get up. Thankfully I have gained all control of my powers.

"Great job, kid!" Eugene said.

"Thanks. Freezing water wasn't the easiest thing in the world." I say.

We start walking across the bridge. I knew it was as safe as it was going to get but I couldn't help but worry. I knew that Eugene and Fetch wouldn't have a problem getting to dry ground but I would still feel bad if the whole bridge collapsed. As we walked on the bridge, light conversation came from Fetch and Eugene about basic things they can do to start freeing Brooklyn and New York. I listen on the conversation and hear stories about how they and Delsin saved Seattle from the DUPs. I was amazed at the stories about Delsin saving and liberated many from the DUP grasp. It amazed me how strong they were at that time. It must have been hard for them to fight on like that, but then again they truly believed that they could face the danger and overcome it. I remember my first encounter with the DUP 10 years ago just before Delsin destroyed the DUP.

-FLASHBACK-

The DUPs came into my town looking for a Conduit that escaped and was running around, or that was the tale. Everyone in town heard that little rumor about the DUPs coming and no one knew that they had gathered information about a Conduit living among them. I managed to keep the lie up for years at this point and I felt safe. I have no idea of how they got enough information to chase me down but when I realized what happened, it was a shocker.

My dads friend owned a shooting range and he often times let us go there when it wasn't opened to practice with my powers. It was only him, my dad and I. They would always talk and watch me practice. It was always fun. They got me target practice, range attacks and even melee. It wasn't the easiest thing in the world but once I got the hang of it, I was almost unstoppable. I was strong and I always had the support of my family and the few people who knew about my powers. I knew that my secret was safe, till this one day.

The DUPs came storming into the little town and started looking around. Nothing unusual since they have done this many times before. But when one of them said there was a Conduit living among the people, word spread fast. People were scared about the Conduit living among them since at the time Conduits had a bad rep. They thought they were going to get killed by the Conduit. They never knew I was the Conduit.

I was well known and loved in the little town. Everyone knew me because I did a lot of work around town. I was one of the first to know about why the DUPs were really there. I told my dad and we didn't know what to do. If anyone found out, I wouldn't be the same. People would be scared of me and that is the last thing I wanted. I wanted them to know that there was no way I was a danger to them.

One of the DUPs came to my neighborhood and gathered the people. My family was in the group they gathered. My mom was worried about me. The last thing I wanted her and my little sibs to see is me getting arrested or hurt. I watched as the whole neighborhood got gathered and start testing people with that machine. Then I saw something that I couldn't forgive.

I saw a DUP attack a 10 year old girl get attacked because she wasn't in line for the tests. She was going to get in some terrible trouble if no one didn't do something. So, I took it into my hands and made a wall of ice between them. That scared people. The DUPs started poking through the crowd to find who did it. I hid it well, until they put another in danger. I build a wall between them as well and then I started pushing the DUPs back.

"River, what are you doing?" My dad asked.

I kept going and soon everyone knew it was me that was doing it. I was the only one not afraid. People knew I was trying to protect them and once the DUPs got driven out of town, everyone cheered for me. They knew that Conduits aren't a danger. They supported me and that neighborhood was the first big group to know.

-FLASHBACK ENDS-

"Hey, kid?" Fetch said

"Yeah?" I replied.

"You ready for a fight?" Fetch said

I looked ahead and there was a check point. Long lines of people waiting to get into Brooklyn. I looked at the people going through the line and tests to protect them from the evil Conduits. We got them in line and waited to get up front. Our plan was just to get up and attack to get in if we needed. Once we got up there, Eugene went first. He didn't even get up to the test before someone recognized him. A DUP took him and arrested him. Fetch was next and I was the only one left.

I knew what I had to do. I froze the DUPs feet and Fetch and Eugene got into action. They ran into Brooklyn fast as well as I did. We lost the DUPs and found a place to rest. It was an abandon apartment that wasn't too old nor too run down. We settled in for the night knowing that we would start the fight tomorrow.

"What shall we do till tomorrow?" Fetch asked.

"I know what I am doing!" Eugene said as he opened his lap top.

"Have fun with that. I am going to read." Fetch said.

I sat next to Eugene and watched him play. He had a high leve character and it looked rather cool. I watched as his played and fought in the game, punishing the bulies and saving the victims.

"You like the game?" Eugene asked after a while.

"I don't know." I say. "I've never really played before."

"Want me to teach you a little?" Eugene asked

"Sure. Sounds like fun." I say.

I listened to Eugene talk for a while about the basics of the game and after a while he started showing some moves on his characters. I laid my head on his shoulder as I watched him play. I felt my eyes get heavy after a while of watching him. I guess he knew that I was sleepy because he closed his laptop and laid down with my head on his chest. I felt him stroke my head and say good night to me.
