Monday. Tuesday. Wednesday. Thursday. Finally it was Friday. Annette walked home in the rain, her tidy binder tucked under her arm and her umbrella tipped over her shoulder.
"Look out!"
Before she knew it, something soft hit her left side and she flew through the air, landing on the hard concrete sidewalk.
Annette groaned and flipped over, noticing her binder lying in the middle of the road, it's contents strewn all over the wet asphalt.
"Oh no!" She shrieked.
Before she could run into the road to save her precious things, a rough hand seized her upper arm and pulled her back. When she turned around, she saw the most handsome young man she had ever witnessed, in real life and on TV. His pitch black hair was slicked back, his one earring especially shiny in the evening light. His ocean blue eyes searched her face, memorizing her features, making her blush. He was chewing gum, his strong jaw flexing every time he chewed. He was wearing a casual navy blue shirt with kaki pants and dress shoes. Nothing fancy, she thought. I like it.
"Uhhh... Hi."
"Hello."
"Why did you keep me from going into the road?"
"You almost got hit by a car."
Annette looked away to hide her embarrassment. She focused on the birds in the purple streaked evening sky of California behind him and mumbled some inaudible nonsense.
"Oh... Th-thanks."
Annette internally face-palmed. She was so awkward around people she was attracted to. She got a whiff of his perfect musky scent and blushed even harder, backing away a bit.
The strangely beautiful man cocked his head at her actions and smiled smugly, still chewing his gum.
"C'mon, I'll help you pick your papers up."
Annette looked at him and nodded curtly.
"Thank you."
He glanced at her with a sparkle in his eye before jogging into the road and quickly scooping papers off the wet road. Annette studied him for a moment and jogged to help.
She looked down at him carefully picking up the papers as to not rip them and realized she forgot to ask him something.
"Could I, maybe, get a name?"
He hesitated and stood up straight, handing her a soggy stack of paper.
He grinned down at her, the sunset highlighting his perfect jawbone.
"Thomas."Author's note
