Five year old Luna Carson sat on the steps of her front porch, grinning from ear to ear as she saw the moving van come to a stop in front of the house across from hers. She always loved meeting new people and making new friends, so when she noticed 2 young kids around her age emerge from a car behind the moving van, her excitement level grew even more.

The first kid she saw was a young girl being carried by her mom out of a car seat, no more than 3 years old. The second kid she spotted was a boy about her age, Luna smiling in his direction. When she noticed that he couldn't see her, she quickly got up and ran across the street to greet him.

Unfortunately, Luna forgot to look both ways before crossing the street, and was almost hit by a passing car that stopped just before hitting her.

"Luna! Oh my god!" Her mother, Maya, screamed before running over and picking her daughter up from the road.

"Is she okay?" The mom of the new neighbors asked as she approached Maya and Luna.

"Thankfully," Maya exhaled. "Sorry about that, I wouldn't say that's the best introduction. I'm Maya Carson, and this is my five year old daughter Luna. We live across the street."

"It's great to meet you both. I'm Katie LeBlanc, that's my husband Billy, and my two kids Caleb and Annie," She introduced as her son, Caleb, walked over waving. "Caleb is also five."

Maya put Luna down, the little girl waving back to the young boy. "Hi Caleb, it's nice to meet you. Wanna go play at my house? I'm sure our moms won't mind."

Caleb laughed. "Okay! Let's go!"

Luna and Caleb giggled as they ran across the street—this time checking both ways—and towards the gates around the house. Luna jumped up and unlocked the latch before following Caleb into her backyard.

"Come on, we can go to my playhouse, but I like to call it my super secret castle," Luna grabbed Caleb's hand and took him to her small playhouse that her dad built her, crawling in through the small dishrag that hung above the doorway. "But I only allow those who know the password."

Caleb placed his hands on his hips, pouting, "But I just moved here, I don't know the password."

Luna smirked. "Guess you'll have to figure it out."

Caleb thought for a moment before smiling, "How about instead I just come in like the prince from Sleeping Beauty, and save you by kissing you? It'll almost be like I'm your knight in shining armor, and that's way cooler than a password."

Luna shrugged. "Sure I guess. But you have to make sure I'm asleep first."

Caleb ran around the backyard and came back a moment later with a stick. "Touch the edge like if it's the needle on the spinning wheel."

Luna tapped the edge, gasping before falling to the ground, pretending to be asleep. She heard Caleb crawl in, peeking her eye open slightly to see him crawling closer, but quickly closed it before he caught her.

"Okay, your knight in shining armor, Prince Caleb, is here! True love's kiss cures all, including the horrifying chicken pox!" Caleb exclaimed, Luna fighting back her giggles as she bit her lip to keep herself from laughing. Caleb laughed along before puckering up his lips. He leaned in and placed his lips on hers, kissing her gently for a few seconds before pulling away.

Luna fluttered her eyes open and smiled, throwing her arms around Caleb and pulling him in for a hug. He toppled over and fell on top of her, the two laughing uncontrollably.

"You saved my life, Prince Caleb! I now appoint you the official co-ruler of my super secret castle," Luna exclaimed.

Caleb laughed and hugged her before saying, "They always hug for good luck, and we're going to need it if we have to fight the monsters that attack our castle."

"You're right," Luna replied before peeking through the opening to see her mom and Caleb's mom come through the gate and into the backyard. "Oh no, Caleb! There's two evil witches coming this way!"

"They're going to destroy our fun!"

"Quick, let's fight them off," Luna handed Caleb a pool noodle, the two counting to themselves before charging out and poking their moms with their pool noodles.

Maya and Katie laughed, lifting up their kids and tickling them until they couldn't stop laughing and dropped their noodles.

"Okay, that's enough for today, you can see each other tomorrow," Maya explained before they put their kids down, Caleb and Luna pouting. "Go on, now, say goodbye."

"Are we going to meet at the super secret castle tomorrow? I can bring animal crackers," Caleb whispered to her.

Luna nodded. "Sure, and by the way, animal crackers are the password."

Caleb winked before he and his mom said goodbye, going back to their house to unpack and move in.

"Did you have fun with Caleb?" Maya asked her daughter as she took her hand.

Luna nodded. "Yes, he's now officially my prince! He saved me by giving me true love's kiss to awake me from the sleeping spell from the spinning wheel."

"Oh did he?" Maya asked with a laugh as she sat Luna down at the dinner table, preparing their meal.

It was yet another lonely night for the Carsons, just the two of them. Parker, Luna's father, was in the military, and unfortunately while being put into battle, he was killed just six months earlier. It was hard for Maya and Luna to cope and move on, but Maya knew she had to stay strong for her daughter, even if it meant her only time to grieve was when Luna was put to bed, and it was just Maya and the empty bed she slept in every night.

So when Maya heard about new neighbors around their age moving in, it gave her hope for a new beginning, and something to make both her and her daughter happy.

Little did she know how important the LeBlancs would become to the Carson family.
