The way he was looking at me made me smile. I shook my head while sheepishly smiling and taking my seat next to him. I looked at him and extended my hand towards him for a hand shake, "Hi! I'm Alia!" He took my hand into his and gave me a firm hand shake, a one I'm a fan of. "Hi there,Alia! I'm Sameer"
Wait...What?? Icy blue eyes, foreign features, foreign accent and an Indian name?
I'm sure he took on to my shock from my face and chuckled saying, "My mum's Indian! She wanted me to have something Indian as from my blonde hair and blue eyes, I didn't really get a lot of Indian genes, hence the name"
I sighed, "Now it makes sense!" I say still smiling sheepishly. "So, you were here to visit family?" I started trying to make a conversation considering the fact that I could use some company for the rest of the flight...
Thats when the pilot instructed us to switch off our phones and and buckle in our seat belts. I remembered my moms speech and my heart dropped a little..I quickly send in a message about my flight leaving and switch my phone off and look at Sameer waiting for him to answer.
I found him searching my face for something,as if reading my thoughts..His eyes were so captivatingly blue I could get lost in them,as if drowning in the big blue ocean. "Yes,actually! Also, wanted to see the universities here...Are you Okay?" he cut what he was saying mid-sentence sounding concerned.
I look up at him, smiling slightly, "Yes, I'm okay..the fact just hit me that I'd be on my own in a huge place like America without my family..thats it!" I suddenly realized that he said he was here for the universities,"Why would you want to study here?" I asked curiously
"I didn't say that!" He said almost too quickly, startling me. "I'm sorry," he continued, "Its just that I needed to take this solo trip,so I made up the interest of coming here" he said ruffling his dark blonde hair and smiling. It made me laugh, leaving both of us laughing.
The plane starts picking up speed and suddenly I find Sameer Holding my hand in a very soft way, not too tight. I could feel his soft finger tips at the back of my palm. I looked at him, and he looked back at me with an expression I couldn't quite read! He wasn't scared or anxious, rather he sat there even calmer than me. I looked at our hands intertwined and then back at him, smiled and looked ahead. I didn't want to be too pushy.
Once we were on air and stable, I looked at him expectantly, wanting to know what made him hold my hand. He looked at me with an innocent smile showing his dimple off, "Last time I took this flight, I took it with my girlfriend. She was terrified of planes starting, so I used to hold on to her hand to calm her down every time we were flying together!" he smiled a bit, shaking his head. He looked so earnest while talking about her. I wondered where she was right now.."However, she cheated on me last month.." his voice dropped, his dimples disappeared.
I held on to his hand again and gave him a reassuring look as he continued speaking, "Thats the reason I had to take this trip to Bombay! To find myself..the part of me I never dug into! I needed to think straight and take a break for myself before school begins.."
"Its okay..I get it! I hope this trip helped! Do you rather want to watch movies and laugh it off?" I ask earnestly with a bright smile!
