CURATORS OFFICE

The curator sat at his desk staring through an eyepiece at the box. I could practically sense the excitement radiating off of my Evelyn and Jonathan as I stood in front of the two. I leaned over the Curators desk as I pointed to the cartouche in the top right corner,
"See the cartouche there, it's the royal seal of Seti the first."

"Perhaps." He said suspiciously, I narrowed my eyes at him before Jonathan spoke up.

"Two questions, Who the hell is Seti the first? And was he rich?" Jonathan asked leaning over my shoulder to see what I was pointing at.

"Really Jonathan?" I asked him, he smiled sheepishly.

"He was the last Pharaoh of the Old Kingdom, said to be the wealthiest pharaohs of them all." Evie explained, Jonathan let out a loud 'oh'.

"Oh that's good, very good!" Jon said excitedly.

I smiled at my brother as the curator picked up the map and examined it closely.

"I've already dated it, the map is almost 4,000 years old and the hieratics over here-" I said pointing to the outline of the map.

"It's Hamunaptra." I breathed out excitedly.

The curator paused looking at me with an annoyed glance,
"My dear girl, we are scholars, not treasure hunters, Hamunaptra is a myth."

I scoffed before I said,
"Actually I am both, I have been on many expeditions myself."

"Are we talking about the Hamunaptra?" Jon butted in, Evie sighed.

"Yes, idiot." Evie retorted as she rolled her eyes at him.

"Everyone knows the story, The entire Necropolis was rigged to sink into the sand, by a flick of a switch. A whole place could disappear under the sand." I said explaining the history behind the place.

I noticed the Curator hold the map close to a fire and before I could do anything
It caught on fire. He dropped it onto the ground with an 'oh!' As Evelyn and Jonathan rushed to put it out. I glared at the older man as they put out the fire.

"You burnt off the lost city!" Jon cried out as he picked up he map.

"I'm sure it's for the best. Many men have wasted their lives on Hamunaptra and never returned." The curator said.

"You killed my map!" Jon said furiously.

"It's probably a fake anyways. And you two to be fooled by something like this, it's a shame." He said to Evie and I.
